Sam Indeed. Some of the smaller sides should, in theory, stand a better chance this year. Corinthians should be a big threat though. Lodeiro has signed for Ajax from Nacional of Montevideo today. Real shame as I loved watching him come to prominence recently. He really should've stayed at least one more season with Nacional in my opinion. I think a lot more people will be following Ajax with interest now, Suarez and Lodeiro attacking defences is a great prospect.

The 2010 Copa Libertadores kicked-off in style tonight, with Colón beating Universidad Católica 3-2 in a classic encounter in Santa Fé. Colón got off to a flying start when Nieto - whose physicality caused the visiting defence problems throughout the game - scored after just five minutes, finshing past Garcés from close range. Universidad, aiming to join Chilean counterparts Colo-Colo with success in the Libertadores, rarely troubled Colón goalkeeper Diego Pozo in the opening half-hour. Complacency in midfield, however, cost Colón their slender lead. In the 35th minute Morales equalised, heading home from six yards after good work from Diaz, punishing Colón's inability to retain possession. Panic set in, and Colón fell to pieces. Confidence surged through the Universidad team, and sensing blood they battered the hosts for the remaining ten minutes of the first-half. In the 43rd minute, the impressive Morales blasted a stunning 30-yard drive off the crossbar. Just a minute later, Rodrigo Valenzuela whipped in an inch perfect cross and, somehow, Rodrigo Toloza fired over from just four yards. With a chance to regroup at the break, Colón started the second half as they did the first. They moved the ball well, the full-backs were more adventurous and strikers Nieto and Fuerte were a growing influence on the game. In the 53rd minute, the home support screamed for a penalty when Fuertes appeared to have been pulled down in the box. However, referee Jorge Larrionda - who had a strong game - correctly waved away the desperate appeals. Universidad began to defend deep - inviting pressure from Colon - and in the 66th minute paid the price. Captain Fuertes restored Colón's advantage when he tapped home from three yards following good work from defenders Garcé and Goux. Just three minutes later, Facundo Bertoglio grabbed what proved to be the winner with a stunning individual effort. The little midfielder picked the ball up 40 yards from goal, skipped past two defenders and calmly finished off the post from 20 yards. In the 80th minute, Morales pulled a goal back for his second of the game, and the Estadadio Brigadier Gral fell silent. The home crowd, who thought the game had been killed off, were stunned, and for the remaining ten minutes Colón looked nervous. Jorge Ormeño was dismissed for Universidad deep into injury time for a second bookable offence. At the final whistle, both teams seemed content with the result. Colón, satisfied with a hard fought victory, will take a slender lead to Chile, while Universidad have two crucial away goals and will be confident of overturning the deficit on home soil.
