I think he was always going to come to reading when the opportunity arose. He lives in the town and having worked at reading for years knows the set up.
Thing is he can hardly make a statement about how he'd like to leave before he knows it's definitely gonna happen, otherwise if it hadn't he'd hardly be able to continue at Watford. I don't think he was lying when he said he was happy at Watford and wanted to take them forward. It just so happens that he, in his opinion stands a better chance of achieving his goals with Reading.I think the appointment is a good one. He's young, eager and has alot to prove. He's been very successful in football thus far, and has good contacts in the game. I think he is a good alternative to the Coppell style manager we have lost and will hopefully utilise the great crop of young players we have coming through the ranks and will be given some cash to bring in some fresh faces. I totally understand that. I can see it from his point of view as well as from a Watford FC point of view. It is not the fact he has gone that leaves a bitter taste, thats football, it happens. It is the fact he said he was 100% commited and loyal just a matter of weeks before - which proved to be rubbish. If he had not said anything when the speculation started it would be better than what he did. If he came out and said "Thank you for the chance but this is my home town club etc etc etc...I see this as another chance blah blah blah" - we would've understood, but he didn't. I'm not trying to paint the guy in a bad light there, he did a good job in his time with us, and we're thankful for that. Sure most people in his position would've done the same. Sure you'll go on to see what he's like though
