Barry holds City talks
England midfielder in discussions at Eastlands
Aston Villa have confirmed that midfielder Gareth Barry is holding discussions with Premier League rivals Manchester City.
The England international's future has been the subject of widespread speculation since a move to Liverpool collapsed last summer.
The Reds were unwilling to meet Villa's £18million valuation of Barry, who is keen to play UEFA Champions League football, but money-rich City could be prepared to offer the desired fee.
City will not be playing in Europe next season, but they have aspirations to become a top-four Premier League club following the arrival of Sheikh Mansour in 2008.
Barry's current contract with Villa expires at the end of next season and boss Martin O'Neill has previously stated that deal will be allowed to expire if the player does not commit.

Thats a done deal money will not be an option with Man city's transfer kitty. They also said they wanted Tevez, now that would be a steal.

So he's another Ashley Cole! At the end of the day he just wants more money. He's not bothered about the Champions League.

Man City could ruin football this summer, I fear. At least there's no danger of them snapping up all of Plymouth Argyle's finest

This is nothing like the 'Cashley Cole' transfer, in my opinion. Barry kicked up a fuss last summer but since then he has been pretty professional about the whole thing. I don't believe he has come out the last few weeks saying he wants to move and hates Villa - a la Cashley just before his move. We also know that Cashley kicked up a right stink about his wages. He could be instrumental in helping them challenge for Europe, both Europa and Champions League. But if and when they qualify for the Champions League, will he still be commanding a place in the starting XI at Man City? I personally doubt it. Hopefully all transfer deals will be done as smoothly and gentlemanly as this one throughout the summer. No bitching from either side, no bleating to the press just announcing a fee has been accepted and then announcing the transfer has been completed. Also -- Sturridge has gone to Chelsea on a free apparently, out of contract at Citeh.
