Well this was inevitably going to happen but is still sad to have the confirmation that we are fucked. In an ideal world we can keep all our players and bounce straight back but that was said when we dropped from the Premiership. I've got a feeling it's gunna be a long time rolling around in league 1, if we even find a buyer that is. Ah well we'll give you a fiver for surman, lallana and saganowski!

Bet a few other teams at the bottom of the table are glad of this announcement.. Not me. I'm with Smurf on this one. The financing of football screws the weak and wounded clubs and there are some in charge who look to make a quick buck out of a perceived opportunity with no sense of the sentiment attached to football clubs not only by their supporters but by their communities. Of course, there is no capital return on sentiment so it is not accounted for. I accept that the rules are the rules and theoretically they are there to discourage mismanagement and malpractise. As ever, the perpetrators walk away with their tails between their legs and the fans take the punishment that hurts and resonates for disproportionately long afterwards. Of course I want to be safe in this league but I want to be there on merit (what little we have this year) and not at the expense of other genuine football supporters. I think effectively Southampton were down anyway, but I've no wish to see them handicapped like this next year. Presumably, if they win enough games to finish outside the bottom three they therefore take the ten points this year and have a clean slate next? If that's true, they seriously have a lot to play for in the last two games. In the meantime, Man City are probably contemplating a £150m bid for Kaka in the summer and nobody joins the dots to see how its all connected. As the man said, Capitalism is killing football.

I'd like to offer my condolences to you guys.
I think it would be sad if this happened to any club (except the Blades off course, i'd piss myself), but for it to happen to a club like Southampton, who have always tried to play the game the right way saddens me.
It's a shame to think this is what English football has become and it's only going to get worse IMO with more clubs going the same way.
I feel sorry for the fans more than anything cos I know how i'd feel if this was happening to Wednesday.
Hope you get through this and I want to see you back in the Championship ASAP as you're certainly not a League One club.
Good luck
