Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has a fitness D-Day when it will be decided whether he can play in Monday’s crunch clash against Birmingham.
Jarvis will join in a full squad training session tomorrow for the first time in six weeks, as the international contingent return to Compton.
The wide man is one of the four or five contenders vying for Michael Kightly’s right-wing spot, after the England under-21 international was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken toe.
Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Jarvis trained yesterday, so that’s a real plus and it looks like he’s coming back. He feels really confident. But I wouldn’t rush him back for the Birmingham game – we’ve got five more after that.”
“He could be involved in some way, but let’s see how he is when he trains with the rest of the players. It would be good to have him back anyway irrespective of what’s happened with Kightly.
“It’s just nice to have Jarvis back, because he’s a real threat and it’s good to have him back involved.”
McCarthy remains confident strike duo Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will be fit, despite withdrawing early from international duty earlier this week.
The manager said: “I think he (Iwelumo) will be fine. He’s confident he’ll train. He wasn’t fit enough to be involved (for Scotland).
“I guess it becomes a precaution when you don’t keep him there and they sent him back, which was sensible.”
Of Ebanks-Blake, McCarthy added: “He’ll be alright. He has trained and didn’t complete the session – but he came off to protect it, that’s all.”

Wolves are hopeful strike duo Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will be fit for Monday’s clash at Birmingham – despite both missing internationals through injury.
Sixteen-goal Iwelumo has reported back early from Scotland duty, missing the World Cup qualifying win against Iceland with a hip flexor injury.
Championship top scorer Ebanks-Blake, who has struck 24 times this season, missed out on England under-21’s action with a calf problem.
Wolves head of medical department Steve Kemp said: “Chris has been sent back from Scotland as a precautionary measure to be assessed by our medical team.
“We don’t think it’s anything too serious but we’ll monitor him over the next couple of days to see how he goes.
“There’s no major injury trauma there and the main thing is that it’s a precautionary step.
“It gives Chris a chance to be involved for us on Monday.”
Ebanks-Blake is expected to return to training on Saturday, when the rest of Wolves’ international contingent return to Compton.
Kemp said: “Sylvan’s done very well. He came back with a minor tear to his calf and has been in intensive rehab ever since.
“He’s been improving on a day-to-day basis and should be able to go back into training over the next couple of days.
“We’ll see how he reacts to that.”
Winger Matt Jarvis, one of the contenders to replace Michael Kightly, is also in contention for a return to action at St Andrews after missing six games with a medial knee ligament injury.
Kemp said: “Matt has had a nasty niggling injury but has been working really hard and has had a course of injections which have worked really well.
“We’re hopeful he’ll go back into training and put himself in contention for the Birmingham game.”
Kemp also had a positive bulletin on Wolves’ long-term casualties Matt Murray, Carl Ikeme and George Elokobi.
The head of medical said: “They’re also doing well. George Elokobi is well on his way to running and will shortly be training with the first team in terms of integrating with conditioning coach Tony Daley.
“We’re really pleased with his progress and it looks like he’ll be fit for the start of next season so we’re delighted with that.
“All the injuries are going the right way and other than the Kights news everything has been positive.”

Scotland striker James McFadden is set to return to the Birmingham squad for the first time since January after recovering from a knee injury.
Marcus Bent is also in contention but Stuart Parnaby (thigh) and Kemy Agustien (groin) are still unavailable.
Wolves strikers Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (calf) and Chris Iwelumo (thigh) should both be fit.
Winger Matt Jarvis is back from a knee problem but Michael Kightly will miss the rest of the season (broken toe).
Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish told BBC WM:
"If you're not looking forward to high profile games likes these, then you should be chucking it (in).
"Wolves have a little bit of leeway at the moment and we've got to go all out to reduce that. I'd prefer to be in Wolves' position at the moment but there's no reason why we can't win this game and get to within two points."
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy told BBC WM:
"They (the players) can sense and see the importance of it better than anybody, because they're playing in it.
"They are our nearest and dearest rivals and they are a good side. We know night games are something special and I just don't think there's a game of more significance this season with six games to go."

I think Sheff Utd might be your biggest threat mind you.

That was fukin awful from start to finish. They get reduced to ten men and take the initiative. I was a bit baffled about the starting line up with Ward and Edwards on the wings, was a tad negative i thought. Playing the high ball into Iwelumo seemed to be successful to a degree but it was playing into their hands, as both their centre halves preferred the long ball. I'm sure if we had got it on the pitch (which was terrible) we would have had more success. As for Hennessey Flapping constantly like a penguin every time the ball came near him and as for the first goal, oh dear. Harewood didn't get much support. Jarvis looked the most threatening when he came on and Edwards was a threat before Iwelumo came off. 3 much needed points on Good Friday, or the jitters will set in again i think.

3 much needed points on Good Friday, or the jitters will set in again i think. Against a team we've beaten once in 20 odd years, added to the fact we're on Sky and SEB could still not be fit. The odds are stacked against us...
