Matt Jarvis, Andy Keogh and now George Elokobi on a verge of a new deal.
Wolves are close to agreeing a new contract with forgotten defender George Elokobi – as fellow full-back Kevin Foley revealed he’s happy to play on without new terms.
Elokobi wrote off the season after damaging his cruciate ligaments against Ipswich in August, an injury that has restricted the Cameroon-born left-back to just 18 league games for Wolves.
But that hasn’t stopped the Molineux hierarchy being keen to tie the 23-year-old down on a new deal.
His current one was due to expire in June 2010, after he opted to sign a relatively short term deal on his £500,000 arrival from Colchester a year ago.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We’re now talking to George Elokobi. Although he’s injured, he’s only got a year to go (on his deal) and he made such a great impact at the club since arriving from Colchester that we’ve started talking to him.
“I expect something to be announced imminently on that one.”
Elokobi will become the latest young Wolves player to commit their long term futures to the club after Karl Henry, Wayne Hennessey, Michael Kightly, Neill Collins, Carl Ikeme, and - this week -Andy Keogh and Matt Jarvis.
But Player of the Year contender Foley, whose deal expires at the same time as Keogh and Elokobi, hasn’t yet been invited to talks on a new contract.
But the 24-year-old, who was linked with a £2.5m move to Blackburn earlier this season, is happy to let his football do his talking.
Foley said: “I’m not in talks at the moment and I haven’t heard anything. I’ve just got to keep playing well and I’ll see what happens.
“The last thing you want to do is start worrying about contracts.
“But yes I would want to sign. I’m really settled here and I love playing for Wolves.”
