Surprised that there hasn't been any reaction to it on here. All distracted with the bigger news that Kaka is staying in Milan, no doubt

Only realised he was being inaugurated when I saw it on a TV at work to be honest.

Didn't watch it; can't honestly say it interests me. I'm sure we'll get plenty of soundbites/quotes from it over the next few days, and I'm pretty sure that there won't actually be anything new in it anyway. I'll be judging him on his forthcoming actions, not his 'official' introduction to the world

Managed to get his words wrong during the swearing-in oath, apparently!

oh dear its all down hill from here, anyway. he best hope that the slope is not steep. the masses will become disillusioned when they realise what they thought he represented when they voted for him was nothing but a falasy...

I thought it was impressive too - more than I expected. I'd expected a range of platitudes that would not ultimately be substantiated. However, even though he was non specific with regard to explicit detail he was so obviously referring to a desire to undo US foreign policy I was pleasantly surprised. This was not just the references to the war on terror, Iraq and Afghanistan but also the suggestion that he would not be party to enjoying a life of Western privilege whilst others starve.
I of course expect compromise, disappointment and probably a degree of corruption - a legacy of disenchantment that Tony Blair has a high degree of responsibility for - but for the moment there is at least the suggestion of a leader who will lead on principle, not be lead by business, fear of the electorate and "informed" by focus groups.
Doing away with Guantanamo is a brave start. Lets see eh?
