Watched Letters From Iwo Jima yesterday on a large LCD screen. Amazing picture quality but pricey at £17.58.
The conventional DVD 2 disc set was 7.99 at Zaavi.
I have a large DVD library, some 690 titles in all and replacing them will be a lengthy process.
I have a BR player and a PC with a BR drive but I am waiting to see prices drop further hopefully before the end of the year before committing to buying more than one a month.
What about you film afficianados ? Sticking with DVD or switching to BR ?

I watched Iron man on BLu ray the other day and I couldn't tell the difference between it and a DVD at all. Slightly disappointed

Haven't watched anything on Blu Ray, and to be honest I'm not particularly bothered by it either. Okay, maybe the picture's better - I don't know - but I doubt it's worth an extra tenner per film.
I'll probably make a half-hearted drift toward them when they and the players are cheaper, but I'm in no rush.

I guess it will be useful for those ultra long films such as the 4 disc LOTR Extended Editions.
Would be easier to have on the one disc I suppose. Hope the film heads do take the decision voluntarily to drop otherwise I'm in your boat neko & RS.

Did an assignment on Blu-ray at college last year. The research I came across suggested that Blu-Ray is only temporary and will be around for just a few years, as they're working on other stuff.

Wouldn't surprise me if there's an alternative already close to being ready for release. They won't shove it out for at least a few more years, though; why bother when they're still milking a cash cow?

The studios complain about piracy but considering it doesn't cost that much to make these discs they should be lowering prices ASAP. Plus the hoo ha they are making at youtube just because someone has used a video clip or audio clip usually I guess already having purchased the media themselves. Penny pinching to the extreme. Perhaps they could cut the amounts paid to their actors and actresses instead. After ultra blue ray which ues an even shorter wavelength they will probably go to SSDs (solid state devices): www.gigaserver.nl/index.php?cPath=178_244Their implementation: www.patentstorm.us/patents/5651129/description.htmlYou can have your entire video audio library on the one device or select any video audio from any genre , any period of time where video and audio has been available from some giant central storage device. Would miss the feeling of physically being able to see your library a bit though I guess.

I currently have about 30 blu-ray discs.
Due to the size of my library I wouldn't consider on financial or spacial grounds trying to replace like for like, though bar the odd TV series I've abandoned buying new titles on DVD. The only films I am rebuying are my own considered "absolute favourites", though I'm not picking up any particularly old titles (pre-1990) on the grounds of negligible picture benefits.......well unless they've been painstakingly re-stored like the ace new Godfather set! ;D

Only when something becomes the norm, will I consider it. Similar to DVD players, they became the norm so I bought one. Blu-Ray still seem pretty new in my opinion, so I aren't going to go rushing into any purchases.

Where's the "Probably never convert from DVD until a considerably better format comes along" option? And that may be in just a few years time but I cannot see a great deal of point of converting from DVD to Blu Ray when the quality is only a little better and fairly soon a new format will be better than that.

Would you covet a copy of 'Beverley Hills Chihuahua' in 3D? ;D

I'd walk over my own mother just to get a sighting of 'Beverley Hills Chihuahua' in 3D.

Make sure you don't have anything sharp on you though, keys for example, could be dangerous when the urge for gouging out eyes comes.

Lucas, I managed to restrain myself throughout Paris Hilton's performance in 'House Of Wax'. If I can do that, I can manage anything! It's on this week actually, I think. Dare you to sit through it!
