All the talk about Arshavin has got me thinking, do we really need the guy. From what I understand Zenit needs to sell him or they'll lose money, so why should we bail them out. I'm sure he's a quality player; however, £20m is alot of clams to be shelling out for a player that may or may not be able to help us out. Pus both Barcelona (£12m) & Sp*rs (£16m) have tried to get him for the prices listed in parentheses, so why should we raise our price to £20m as I doubt his value has risen & I'm thinking Zenit is over-valueing him at this point. comments

Barcelona didn't really try and sign him. Russia were preparing to playing Spain in the Euros, so Barcelona did their bit for the Spanish Cause by distracting Russia's best player, Arshavin, with a bid...
... it worked too.

i'd not call it a theory.
They weren't interested in him till Spain had to play Russia. Lost interest after the match....
.... if Barcelona wanted to sign him they could have, but they were never really interested.

Arsenal's attempt to sign Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg is being held up by the Russian club's demands, according to his agent. The Gunners and Italian side Juventus have been linked with a £20m deal, but Dennis Lachter says Zenit want the fee to be paid in only one instalment. I knew there was something fishy there !!!

Considering Zenit are ready to move into a stadioum that will put the new lending library into the shade and are financed by Gazprom , money is not an issue for them.
They just want to extort that little bit extra for him. Arshavin would replace Rosicky no doubt.
By the time Arshavin has tired of London Wilshere will have grown up.

Agree with the extortion bit, I see him only playing through on econtract "if" he comes here. He's already made statements about how he'd love to play for Barca'.

He's already made statements about how he'd love to play for Barca'. see 3rd response - he'd never have gone to barca I realize that Morty; however, my point was that he "wants" to play there as he supported Barca' as a kid. (see quote below from BBC) BBC SportSo I would suppose he would move to either an English or a Spanish squad, take the contract they offer him, play his Arse off & hope that Barca' comes a callin' at the end of it. Because I'm sure you were right about the weak approach Barca' made to him during the Euro's, basically half of what his agent wants. ;D
