Wolves keeper Matt Murray may be waiting to make his debut on loan at Hereford – but his arrival has already triggered a dressing room row at the League One club.
Graham Turner’s team already have Charlton keeper Darren Randolph on loan, but it has now emerged that he refused to play last weekend when news of Murray’s impending arrival emerged.
Randolph went off in a huff before Hereford’s FA Cup tie with Dagenham & Redbridge and is now “unlikely” to play for Graham Turner again.
Former Wolves manager Turner, responding to rumours about Randolph’s display of temper, said today: “The team, which included Darren, was announced to the players prior to Friday morning’s training.
“Two hours before kick-off on Saturday, Darren informed me that he had heard we were interested in another goalkeeper. Therefore he refused to take part in the match.
“Had he been a contracted player with us his contract would have been terminated for a serious breach of its terms. However, being on a standard loan, the maximum disciplinary action we can take is to fine him two weeks’ wages.
“Darren has to remain our player until January, but it is unlikely that he will play for us again.”
Randolph has made 14 appearances for Hereford, but was replaced by Craig Samson last Saturday leaving the Bulls without a substitute keeper.
But Murray, on the way back from a lengthy battle against injury, is expected to make his debut against Cheltenham this weekend. He is at Hereford until January to ease him back into competitive action.
* Wolves have denied reports of interest in Bournemouth right-back Shaun Cooper. “He’s not someone we’re actively looking at,” said boss Mick McCarthy.
