Like I said Trav I've got mixed feelings about it. I think it was uncalled for to say those things that were reported as being said to him and I won't change my feelings on that, but the hysteria, the involvement of the PM and the suspensions are well over the top.
If they are taking this road though they should find out who sanctioned the broadcast.

Considering I got the podcast automatically downloaded on the following Tuesday, it kind of suggests that the BBC bosses in question weren't overly concerned by initial reaction to the Saturday night show.
Why else after all, would the BBC employ Brand? Is he not there to bring a bit of an edge to the Radio 2 schedules?

You'd be the perfect person to lodge a complaint to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission then!!

Is Derek Jameson dead? Radio 2 should go back to being mellow and sickeningly nice.

Believe me mate, I don't have the time or the inclination! What's done is done, and I believe Sachs said something along the lines of he had received an apology, they were in enough bother so just leave it.

I must admit to still laughing at Chris Morris getting the boot from Radio 1 for announcing Michael Hestletine's death that time, plus the many 'stings' he did on Brass Eye so I'm not getting on any high horses.

Would it not be cheaper to ply Jimmy Young with Jaffa Cakes and Red Bull? Is he dead too? Both of them are alive actually, according to Wikipedia. Jimmy Young writes a column in the Sunday Express of all papers, the rebellious swine! Jameson's moved on from his column in the Brighton Argus and contents himself with after dinner speaking..... Do you think that Jonathan Ross will eventually become a scribe for the Sheffield Star? ;D

If Rossy forgets everything he knows about proofreading and likes to interview people who are claiming compo and small girls in dance troupes, then a job awaits!

Well I refuse to believe that Steve Wright still breathes and he's on there 6 days a week. Would you put them on before or after 'The Organist Entertains' though? If that's the job spec then I'm sure the Pudsey Times might just be sniffing around too!

FFS!! Can some people get a life! If you want to live in a country where censorship is rife and the radio and TV schedules are filled with nothing more offensive than tripe like '2 Point 4 Children', 'Dinner Ladies' and 'My Family' then maybe you should consider a move to China. Jonathan Ross childlishly shouted "He's fucked your granddaughter" down the phoneline and Brand after phoning back, initially to apologise, went off into one of has wayward monologues. There were no graphic descriptions, nor anything else specific. I dare say the likes of Das Daily Mail and those others who are jumping on yet another bandwagon have not seen a manuscript of the phone calls nor heard the show in question. But then again, why let the reality of the situation get in the way of those small minded idiots who want to get onto their soap box and vent fury over something they know nothing about? Here, here! Bloomin' ridiculous.

so leaving numerous rude messages on an old man's answering machine; would you class that as harassment?
anyone?
or do you think committing such actions for the purposes of "entertainment" lessens there nature? - which is what some of you appear to be saying!

This is basically what I think too. Yes, the reaction's gone overboard somewhat, but IMO the fact remains that they were out of order doing it in the first place. There's being funny, and there's being dickheads. In this instance (and many others, in Brand's case ), it was the latter.
