Members of the Filipino community staged a silent vigil outside the BBC today in an attempt to force the broadcaster to apologise over a "sexist, racist and immoral" Harry Enfield sketch.

Members of the Filipino community staged a silent vigil outside the BBC today in an attempt to force the broadcaster to apologise over a "sexist, racist and immoral" Harry Enfield sketch.
The sketch, in which a character's "pet Northerner" is urged to "mount" a neighbour's Filipina maid, was part of the Harry And Paul show aired on BBC1 and BBC2.
The BBC have said the producers of the programme did not intend to cause any offence.
A spokesman for the broadcaster said: "There was no intention to offend anyone. The producers felt that the sketch in question was so far beyond the realms of reality that it would be very unlikely to cause any offence."
But since being aired the Philippine ambassador in London has written to the BBC demanding an apology.
And at today's protest a petition containing 3,000 signatories was handed to a representative of the corporation.
Protesters gathered outside the BBC building today said the sketch had gone too far and was deeply offensive.
Loline Reed, who moved to the UK from the Philippines in 1978 and is currently chairwoman of the Overseas Women's Club, said: "I found it very offensive, we have a problem with sexual abuse in domestic work and because of the stigma involved the victims do not say anything."
Malcolm Conlan, a 37-year-old first aid trainer, is married to a Filipina and his children are half Filipino.
"It was sexist, racist and immoral," he said.
