Matt Jarvis has been ruled out for two months and Michael Kightly up to four weeks as Wolves were left counting the huge cost of their first defeat of the season.
Jarvis was stretchered off after tearing his hamstring in last nght’s 3-0 loss to Reading, while Kightly strained his hamstring.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said: “Jarvis has torn his hamstring and he’ll be out for at least two months. Kightly has a hamstring strain and we think it will be at least three to four weeks before he will be back in contention.”
Stephen Ward could return for Saturday’s trip to Swansea despite suffering badly bruised ribs, as Wolves suffered their first reverse in 14 Championship games going back to April 15.
McCarthy said: “Hopefully, Wardy could be OK for the weekend. I thought he was terrific against Reading. He was accidentally caught on the chest by Karl Henry’s studs and was in a lot of pain.
“The medical staff assessed him at half-time and gave him the green light to carry on.
“The fact he didn’t want to come off is a testament to his character and he only did so towards the end, when he was having trouble getting his breath.”
Wolves are already without long term injury victims George Elokobi, Jody Craddock and Matt Hill.
The absence of the two wingers who have caused such devastation to the opposition is a massive blow to Wolves’ hopes.
The pair, who only played together four times last season because of injury, have been two of the mainstays behind Wolves’ flying start, creating countless chances while Kightly has also scored four goals.
McCarthy admitted losing his wingers for the forseeable future is a huge loss.
He said: “The cost to the team is far greater than three points. The loss is huge. ‘Kights’ was getting progressively worse and he had to come off, so perhaps we caught it before too much damage was done.
“Maybe the two hamstring injuries were an indication of how hard they worked, because the way Jarvis had got back was amazing.
“Andy Keogh has also hurt his knee and lower back.”

That's a great replacement. I'd say Kightly is still better but Edwards is capable of shredding full backs in this league.

Wolves have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland winger Carlos Edwards on a three-month loan.
The 29-year-old was due at Compton today to complete the transfer today to train with his new-mates in readiness for Saturday’s trip to Swansea.
Molineux boss Mick McCarthy acted quickly after losing wingers Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis to capture Edwards, whose only action this season has been against Liverpool in the Premier League and in the Carling Cup against Northampton.
Jarvis is out for two months with a torn hamstring, while Kightly’s absence will be considerably less as he has a strained hamstring.
Edwards, who is predominantly right-sided and quick, will be seen as a key signing to cover the absence of either.
Signed by Roy Keane for £1.4m from Luton in January 2007, he was an important player for the Black Cats during their promotion season of 2006-07, playing 15 games in the second half of the campaign as they swept to the title.
But his Premier League experience has so far been a frustrating one.
Having missed the first half of last season with a hamstring injury, he then broke his leg against Derby in December and was sidelined again.
But he is completely fit again now and will see the chance with Wolves to prove himself.
This season he has been kept out by Steed Malbranque and occasionally El Hadji Diouf, but is certainly a dangerous performer at Championship level.
Capped 61 times by Trinidad and Tobago, he played in the last World Cup in Germany. He came to Britain in 2000 when he signed for Wrexham along with Hector Sam and Dennis Lawrence, costing £125,000.

Michael Kightly remains bang on course to complete an ahead-of-schedule comeback next weekend.
And that will be the best possible news for a Wolves squad desperate to get out of their system the two-game fall from grace before the international break.
Key-man Kightly was originally ruled out for longer after suffering a pulled hamstring against Reading, but Steve Kemp, the head of the club’s medical department, reports swift progress from the England under- 21 star.
Kightly is already back out on the training ground at Compton and Kemp says: “Michael’s responding to treatment well and is outside running and progressing well, so, fingers crossed, he should be back in full training in time for the Coventry game.”
That will be just what Wolves need to hear after those back-to-back defeats by Reading and Swansea added pressure to the comeback derby against Coventry at Molineux a week today.
“You want to be top of the league,” says defender Neill Collins.
“Everyone says you don’t look at the league table too much in terms of thinking you’re going to get promoted and that’s right.
“But we enjoyed being top and if you told me we’d be top of the table all the way through the season I’d take that! The longer we’d stayed top of the league the better we’d have done, so obviously we are going to try and get back there.
“It’s annoying because even if we could have taken a point at Swansea we’d have been top of the league.
“The international break is good in terms of getting players back and fit but by the same token footballers are desperate to go out and prove people wrong after a bad result.”
But Collins believes Coventry will face a Wolves team a little wiser for the experience gleaned from those two defeats following seven successive victories.
He added: “With each defeat you always look at it and think about what went wrong. It has made us more determined not to let it happen again. Often you learn more from a defeat than you do a victory. We’ve learned a lot from the last two games.”

Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has been tipped to make a full recovery from his hamstring tear.
The nature of Jarvis’s ‘sniper-like’ injury has prompted memories of the way Michael Owen suffered with hamstring trouble earlier in his career.
Yet Wolves boss Mick McCarthy insists Jarvis will be as good as new and not suffer any long-term effects – or need to taper his game.
McCarthy said: “He’s 22, so no – he’ll get it back to absolutely brand new. But we will have to get it back to that before he can play.
“If you’re playing at centre-half and you come back, you head it and kick it – you’re not sprinting up the pitch. You stay in position, so you can manage the risk of injury better.
“Matt Jarvis is Matt Jarvis – an explosive attacking winger who uses his pace and power to get past people. He will be fine and back at it, no problem.”
McCarthy has stated before that losing Jarvis or Michael Kightly would be like Manchester United or Liverpool playing without Cristiano Ronaldo or Fernando Torres respectively.
The Molineux chief does insist that the attention to detail of Wolves’ recovery programme means Jarvis won’t return unless he is fully fit.
The boss said: “It would be nice if we had four of equal ability and we could pull one of them out and play someone else, but we don’t.
“We have rehab but we also have pre-hab, so anyone who suffers from an ankle, calf, thigh, hamstring or even shoulder injury, they would be doing weights and strengthening, and the conditioning to protect that.
“We’ll have to make sure he’s fit, able and well before he comes back.”
McCarthy warned: “He’s getting closer every day but I’m closer to a game than he is at the moment.
“He was always going to be 10, 12 weeks from the time he did it – I would have said three months, because Matt Jarvis will have to get his hamstring right back up to where it was before he can operate at full throttle again.”

Wolves are to open contract talks with George Elokobi and Matt Jarvis with a view to offering them long term deals – despite their injuries.
Left-back Elokobi is out for the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage, while left-winger Jarvis faces another six weeks on the sidelines with a torn hamstring.
Jarvis’ two-year contract is up in June – although the club have a year’s option in their favour – while Elokobi is less than 12 months into a two and a half year agreement, on modest money given his previously unproven status.
But the club’s top brass are so impressed with the impact of the 22-year-olds that they are keen to commit them long term to protect their transfer value and ward off potential predators.
Boss Mick McCarthy: “Matty has a year’s option after this season, and, at the moment, we’re discussing a number of people’s contracts and Matt is one of those.
“Matty’s a good player and we want him here with us. We want to look after George too and he’s someone else we’re discussing. He’ll definitely come back just as fit – he’s the most positive guy I’ve ever known regarding his injury.
“I, nor anyone at the club, is in talks with any player, but myself, Jez and Steve are aware of everything going on at the club. We’re monitoring these things all the time.”

Matt Jarvis has given Wolves a huge boost with the news he is set to rejoin full training in two weeks’ time – up to a month ahead of schedule.
The flying winger has been out since September 30 after tearing his hamstring against Reading, missing the last seven games.
Jarvis had been expected to be out for between 10-12 weeks, but the 22-year-old has made a much quicker than expected recovery and is well into his rehabilitation.
Manager Mick McCarthy is hopeful that the former Gillingham wide man will be back training with the first team inside a fortnight.
“He’s great. He’s doing far better than we would have hoped for or expected,” said McCarthy.
“He’s really stepped up his training and we’re delighted with him. He might be back in training in a couple of weeks which would probably make it eight weeks since he did the injury.
“We said we thought he was going to be out for potentially three months – and it might be three months before he plays for the first team.
“But we don’t want to get too carried away with the fact he’s coming back – he’s got to get right up to first team pace and he’s got to get into the side.
“But it would be lovely to have him in training in two weeks’ time and we’ll take it from there.”
With Jarvis on the mend, McCarthy has a virtually fully-fit squad. Left-back Matt Hill emerged unscathed from his second comeback game from yesterday’s 2-1 friendly reserves’ win over Coventry at Compton yesterday.
Jason Shackell and Mark Davies missed the game due to illness, but are both otherwise fit.
The only other casualty is defender Jody Craddock, who continues to struggle with discomfort in his broken foot . “He’s had to ease off,” said McCarthy. “He just felt something on the side of his foot when he’s running.
He’s had a bone scan and we’re waiting for the results.”
