Well well well
Leicester 0 Millwall 1
Absolute shocker today. We got what we deserved out of that, sweet FA. I can't recall 1 half-decent chance/shot from us. I can't remember seeing a worse game for a centre back pairing from us for some time now (even after defeats last season). A better opposition could have had a field day with them.
I mentioned after the Tranmere game that I was concerned that our team lacked physical strength. Millwall obviously did their homework. They marked our small wingers and full backs out of the game, put 11 men behind the ball when they lost possession and played a physical, niggly game. Not particularly pretty but they counter attacked fairly well and we didn't cope with them at all. Simply reduced to hoofing the ball to Howard, which didn't work at all. Worrying because plenty more teams will play like that against us this season, we have to adapt better than that.
Lots of set plays today and frankly they were nothing short of a disgrace...very very poor...I could go down the park on a Sunday morning and see consistently better than that. Lloyd Dyer, Max Gradlel...hang your heads in shame. What typified it to me was stoppage time we have a freekick 40 yds out, 9 players in the area, Millwall have just had someone sent off, and Dyer seems to aim the ball for the corner flag. Unbelievable.
Hobbs was utter shit, Morrison not much better. Tunchev needs to play CB with one of them to shore it up a bit. Fryatt and Gradel were very greedy with the ball. Gradel's a tricky player but his final ball, be it cross, pass or shot was awful.
I'm not sure that Holloway's tactic of chucking on 4 strikers when you're losing has quite proven its worth yet... best steer clear of this tactic in the future Pearson.
Martin - 5 - Don't see what Hendo did wrong...bring him back. Fills me with much more confidence. Poor communicator
Gilbert - 5 - off injured early but not good. His small height meant he struggled to cope.
Morrison - 5 Poor
Hobbs - 4 Absolute calamity today. Hope its a 1 off. I was seriously wondering if this was a defender we were playing.
Powell - 6.5 - did his job well enough
Gradel - 5.5 - Our only attacking outlet but marked out the game. Spurned opportunities through his greed.
Oakley 5.5 - back to the Oakley of last season
King - 5.5 - poor passing.
Dyer - 4 - Thought he had a very poor game today.
Howard - 5.5 - poor service but he stifles play when we try to attack quickly.
Fryatt - 5 - Poor game today by Matty.
Subs:
Tunchev - 7 - defence looked much more sound with him in there.
Dickov - 5.5 - non existant again.
DJ Campbell - 7 - I'm not his biggest fan but he looked lively when he came on and may give us a bit of a different option up front. Needs to work on his finishing.
A frustrating performance. I'm not sure choosing to have an international break did us much good when we were so on form. Not the end of the world, I hope this result is the warning shot across the bows and a reality check for players and fans alike.
