What with Wimbledon over for another year - and the English press claiming (just like last year) that this years mens final was "THE BEST FINAL EVER!". Who does 606 think to be the greatest tennis player of all time?
Over the last few years there have been an increasing number of people claiming that Federer is the greatest of all time, I don't agree as I'd prefer to judge when his career is done & dusted.
For me it's out of Borg - dominated both Wimbledon & Roland Garros although never competing in Aus.
&
Sampras, that hairy one.
But what do you guys think?

Laver has held all 4 Grand Slams in the same year twice, which indicates he was the best all rounder. No one has matched that!
Sampras has won the most Grand Slams with 14 to his name.
One of those 2 IMO!

I was considering this question earlier today in the aftermath of last night's classic epic encounter. As always with a cross-generational issue like "who is the best ever" there's plenty of factors to consider. For me, the best ever was Borg. I grew up watching him at Wimbledon and those memories have stuck with me forever. I wonder how he'd have faired with today's technologies against today's top players. Likewise I wonder how today's top players would fair if they were thrust into the 1970's with wooden rackets, Robinson's Barley Water to drink between games instead of isotonic drinks and trainers that offered as much support and comfort to your feet as a pair of flip-flops. I can consider the numerous options and still, Borg comes out on top although to be completely honest, if you could match Borg against Federer or Nadal, or against say a Pete Sampras, then I do know this, the match would be phenominal. Great poll. Makes a change to see one that isn't about CAV. P.S. It's worth mentioning Rod Laver and Arthur Ashe too in the greatest ever kind of poll, because between them, they did more to revolusionise the sport than anyone.

Borg for me. Five successive Wimbledons to go with four successive Frech Opens. Plus Wimbledon was all he ever played on grass I understand, so to win so many without even warming up first was fantastic.

Triumvirate of Laver , Sampras & McEnroe.
The last is my favourite simply because of his net play.Simply incredible touch.
Sampras could still be in the top 30 today & ran Federer close in an exhibition recently.
