Milan have claimed they have been priced out of a move for Barcelona outcast Ronaldinho by Manchester City.
The Serie A giants had been expected to secure the signature of the Brazilian magician, but the trail went cold a couple of weeks ago.
City have long held an interest in the 28-year-old, with owner Thaksin Shinawatra a huge admirer of his talents, and the Thai’s bulging bank balance is believed to have won the day.
“For now Italian football is ranked fourth in Europe behind England, Spain and Germany,” said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.
"Unfortunately we can't compete with the wages they offer.
"Manchester City offered the Brazilian €12 million a year (£9.5 million). We could only compete with that if he was free."
