Badly in the Crewe and Nantwich bye election. Strangely this was the first Tory bye election success in 26 years and in what was previously a Labour stronghold. Things are going from bad to worse for the Labour party. When Brown assumed the position of PM I was quite supportive viewing him as a man of intellect and principle, quite refreshing after the image conscious Blair.
It isn't working out for him though, he always appears awkward and uncomfortable his image and standing have gone from bad to worse. I'm not sure that he can recover from this and have any hope of leading the Labour party to a general election victory.
He may have to go.

I though he would be good for the party too after Blair and his media darlings but as the global markets have turned he hasn't dealt with it properly. This coming from a man who has been in charge of the government purse strings for the last 10 he should have know better than anyone what was coming and put contingencies into place. Also I wouldn't put it past Blair to have left a few suprises for Brown to deal with to make the image of Blair look better in retropect!

Whilst Brown is doing really badly let's not all jump on the Tory bandwagon - they have failed to answer how they would deal with the current economic crisis as well

To be fair, Brown's managing a combination of the two worst things he could possibly do at the moment, at least regarding the nation's finances. In some areas, his government isn't acting at all, and in others, they're acting to things harder. While I still don't rate Blair particularly highly as a politican, I still think he'd have done a far better job than Brown is right now! I also think Brown was vastly over-rated during his time as Chancellor and was helped by a strong global economy, but that's another issue for another time.
