Ladies, gentlemen and transgendered muppets, welcome to Neko's betting league! ;D
The premise is simple - we place bets, and fill up a league based on the results. It's a bit of competitive fun, no money changes hands, and it'll hopefully give us a regular event to have a laugh with. Anyone can join at any time - just let me know, and I'll add you to the table!
The Basics
- Each player will be given £200 to start with.
- Each week/whenever, I will visit a suitable website and pick out around 40 games for us to work with.
- I will leave the details (games and odds) in a new thread, and you guys can place bets on them.
- I'll record the bets, and total everything up once the results are in.
- Once all results have been calculated, a new table will be posted up with the latest standings, as well as a note of who gained/lost what.
- Wash, rinse and repeat.
'The Basics' in super-simple format!
- You get £200
- I'll give you some odds
- You place bets
- I update the league table
The More Technical Points
- The 40 games chosen will include all Premiership and Championship games being played that weekend/period, plus some League One games. The remainders will be filled up from a selection of 'guest leagues'.
- The 'guest leagues' will include international matches, cup competitions, La Liga matches and - when their season starts - MLS matches (assuming odds can be obtained). Primary focus from these will be on La Liga and MLS; when both seasons are running, they will alternate weekly. So study those form guides! (La Liga's results and tables can be found on BBC Sport's European Section, while MLS's results, news etc can be tracked on MLSnet.com. I will try to answer any questions on the latter, because they don't present their football stats in the same way as us!)
- During the European off-season, other leagues may be taken into consideration to make up the numbers.
- You do NOT have to bet on all the games. The odds are provided for you to do as you please with - you can make individual bets, accumulators, doubles, trebles etc, or just not bet at all, if nothing catches your fancy.
- For now, the only options being given will be the match outcomes. Later, if the workload isn't too heavy, I may expand this to include score predictions, first goalscorer etc.
- Once bets have been recorded, they're final. This will potentially save me masses of effort going back and changing things however many times each week. I won't note them immediately after they've been posted, so you'll at least have a few hours in which to change your mind. Injury news etc won't change this clause.
- Once posted, the odds are final. Therefore, injury news after the odds are posted could make a particular bet very attractive indeed, so keep your eyes open!
- Postponed/abandoned games will result in any bet they affect being refunded, regardless of the other results. While I appreciate this won't always be the best outcome, it's one rule for all this way.
- Your funds for the new odds will be featured on the newest league table. If you want a detailed history of your past bets, I will hopefully be able to provide them. However, this will be limited to only your own history - it's up to you to figure out the loopholes if you want someone else's
In Case You Blow Your Cash
Should you run out of money, you can ask to be re-instated into the league with the initial £200 start-up fund again. However, the following applies to this condition:
- You will keep all your old stats (bets made, bets won etc) which will presumably inflict a heavy deficit on your averages. As such, you will be disadvantaged as far as calculating league position goes.
- You will first have to have a 'sitting out' period. This period will last three weeks or four betting rounds, whichever comes first.
This 'sitting out' period exists to act as a deterrent - i.e. if you enjoy the game, you presumably won't want to sit out, and so will theoretically be more careful with your money to ensure that you don't have to.
In other words, if you fail massively, you won't be left up shit creek, but at the same time there is a 'penalty' waiting for you.
I believe this covers everything - if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
