Richard Hope has completed his move to Wrexham on a free transfer after passing a medical.
The 28-year-old defender will join the Dragons when his contract at Shrewsbury Town, where he was captain, expires on 1 July.
The left-sided centre-back was surprisingly released from Gay Meadow having played in all three of the Shrews' failed play-off campaign.
"I'm glad that hurdle is cleared," Hope told the Wrexham website.
"During my career I have been fortunate enough to have been able to steer clear of problems, over and above the normal run-of-the-mill stuff.
"Now this is out of the way, I can concentrate on looking for a house and settling my family into their new surroundings.
"Pre-season training is only a few short weeks away and after only playing my last game 10-days ago, a short break would not go amiss".
Hope, a former Blackburn trainee, has also played for Darlington, Northampton, York and Chester.
