She did actually and gave people the option to buy their houses and a sense of worth. Something the labour party has never done, a simple 'it'll be alright' attitude! Also got rid of the draconian unions, which is something Tony Blair followed through! Well... now you are getting what you want! Right to Buy was a disaster which has actively contributed to the lack of housing for those who need it most. There was no point in building social housing once that RTB was brought in as it would immediately be bought. The legacy has meant no building of social housing for a long time leading to the problems we have now - and house prices wouldn't have been as high in the first place had demand been met even slightly! As for the Unions, they sought to defend their workers, and Thatcher sought to sack them all and throw their corpses on the scrapheap. You'd have a different attitude if you had any knowledge or experience of the privations of growing up in Wales, the Midlands or the North in the late 70s/early 80s. The slightest whiff of trouble and Thatcher acted rather than dilly dally like the present govt do.

It's amazing how people see things differently. Thatcher didn't do that for other people's benefit. She did that so she could off load the cost of maintaining costly housing and so she could legitimately introduce Poll Tax! Basically you don't get something for nothing. And were talking about giving the white working classes a voices and you're talking about unions being disbanded as a good thing. The only thing protecting the working class working right from Thatcher was the unions. If thats what you believe so be it, but for me so far as I can see people have benefited hugely from it. I can site the example of the old lady who used to live below me! She bought her council falt for £20K, sold ot for £45K and moved in buying the place for £53K which she has since sold for £150K! Now thats a very good return for a £20 investment! No the unions where workshy wankers who took the piss, end of story. You only have to look at the C*nt that is scargill to back that up. He'd have bankrupted this country on his own if he'd had his way. Bit common sense if you please!

I'm sure you know I have no time for the BNP, all I'm saying there a voice that has grown as a result of disinchantment within the working classes. Also fuelled by the Red Tops and the Mails rhetoric. Does not tend to effect your sector mate, so you'll be fine! You should be a bit more critical of the BNP imho, whatever they are - they are not a benevolent or imho legitimate force in UK politics. Losing 40% off the value of my flat would not be "fine"

Are you suggesting we should become a communist state, furthermore are you not buying a house thus entering the rat race yourself!

I never said it was great but you have to admit she picked this nation up from off it's knees and kicked it up the arse. Just remember the mess Labour had left before she took power. I am not a staunch Tory either,i just think folk only remember the latter years of her tenure.

Buying a house doesn't make me selfish because I've worked to get the financial stability this will offer me. Communism has fuck all to do with it.

The many homes now off the council housing list is causing millions of children to have an unsettled life moving from private rented home to private rented home. locals cant get on list at all unless they have come out of prison, and an immigrent ar abouit to drop a kid, and some cant even then short a short term bit of cash for generations of misery was her legacy. .

Thats different to the way the unions put a stranglehold on industries, which ultimatley has all moved abroad! Employment laws and rules are far more stringent these days than then, I know that for a fact as it's my specialist area in insurance. It's up to the employer to defend his actions now, and the courts tend to award against them if they haven't followed correct proceedures. It costs the individual nothing to take out a tribunal against their employer

It costs the individual nothing to take out a tribunal against their employer I think you'll find that due to privatisation and the closures of a lot of well established industries opened up the market to cheaper imports from abroad. And who caused that......Oh yes it was Thatcher and her cronies. Unions tried to keep the work here but it wasn't profitable enough was it? So you're advoating a litigious culture now? Is that really the route we should be going down?

Afternoon mofo's!! ;D Tis getting a bit lively in here. I'd just mention though in my opinion, the 'right to buy' schemes of the 1980's were an utter scandal; radically depleting the social housing stock, while working as a wholly unfair way of redistrubuting wealth within the lower strata of income earners. Often opportunities were given to those who'd sponged off the state to make tens of thousands of pounds on properties, merely because they'd rented them (in a subsidised fashion for many years) and had fallen very lucky with the property they'd been originally allocated (the same too for the 6 bedroom house, child benefit scamsters), while others who'd worked in low income careers found themselves struggling to pay their mortgages in tiny crapholes in run down areas!! Oh and btw, my dad's been a union rep for the best part of 20 years Hurls, so don't expect any back-up from me mate.

Really, your previous post suggested greed and selfishness for looking out for ones self. Are you not doing that, everyone who works hard and should be rewarded for it - another of Thatchers great stances!
It does if you're suggesting we shouldn't look after ourselves as that is the only utopia that applies!

Is that really the route we should be going down? Established, profitable 'No' so why should they be proped up by the state? No, it protects the employees. Which is what you said your father did, simply a different process - that ensures fairness!

I'm not adverse to the who idea of bettering yourself in order to earn more. If I was I wouldn't have spent so long and spent so much money on my education. I don't expect things to be given to me though. Nobody is equal so the communist utopia will never work but there has to be a balance of looking after yourself and looking after each other. Do you not agree?
