Interesting choice for foreign secretary - someone known to have misgivings over the Iraq war and someone who's also known to not be a big fan of military action generally. That probably points a new direction for starters...
In truth, I can't say I'm optimistic about Brown, but I'm not pessimistic either.
As a side note, he's hardly known on Capitol Hill, and it's widely expected that Bush is gonna look to Sarkozsky as his new European best friend - Brown's got closer ties with the democrats than he has the republicans. That could make for an interesting future political climate, to say the least... (But that said, many people thought Blair was bosom buddies with Clinton and wouldn't get on with Bush!)

David Milliband is just being groomed to be the leader after Brown, Neko. Makes me mildly vomitorious! I don't rate him, he's a smarmy bastard (I've met him) The only way Sarkozy will support Bush's wars will be if he gets to draft all of France's ethnic communities! Oh... shit!

It was widely thought Milliband would get some sort of position in the cabinet. Especially after he decided not to stand for the leadership. I think had he done so we would be saying hello to PM Milliband.
I thought he would get the Home secretary position personally

Personally, I'm gonna give it a few months and see what Brown has to say about where he's steering the party. If he says nothing or it sounds like a pile of crap, I'll assume business as usual. Waiting to be convinced!

She's popular in cabinet I think, with down to earth talking apparently. I've just got memories of her being the guest at the awards evening of the high school I was at a few years ago. All she talked about was how she got called to Downing Street and was wearing slingback shoes, making her look a fool in front of the cameras gathered there. No praise for the students collecting GCSE, A level and other awards whatsoever.

No corduroys for me though, just my usual jeans and a t-shirt combo. Do you carry a stick so you can beat the undeserving poor and anyone you suspect may be foreign??

I've got no problem with them setting up shops here - it's the lazy spongers that piss me off, and that's irrespective of colour or nationality! ;D Perhaps the unemployed could be sent out to do volunteer work in disadvantaged countries in exchange for their giro? Send 'em out for a month, leave 'em at home for the next month, and see if they've found a job by the time the next conscription volunteer date rolls around! Deprive 'em of their reality TV, take away meals, cheap cider/lager and games consoles, replacing them with hard labour, and see how keen they are to find jobs then

Not 'everybody who does not work' but 'everybody who does not work and claims benefit'. Other than that, I'll vote that way...

Dunno about conscription - I'm not sure I want lazy, spineless types in the military - but some sort of enforced labour would definitely help. Maybe have them do community work for a month every other month in exchange for their giro? Sending them to another country deprives them of the things they most love, but keeping them here means we benefit from it and don't have to pay for the travel expenses - probably less of an incentive for them to find work though; I could handle working every other month and keeping my creature comforts!
Also, the international work would hopefully put us in a more favourable light internationally, which in this day and age can only be a positive thing.
