After my comments on the England v Russia thread yesterday regarding Mr. Heskey I adjourned to Hell's Kitchen and ordered a large slice of humble pie.
I was joined by Peter Crouch who just had half a plate of acrobatic peas and Wayne (look out Barry will puree your head)Rooney who had what turned out to be a bad trotter.
Malcom McClaren is in my view the man for the job, he has got it absolutely spot on with his selections and cunning substitutions.
Did Jerkoff handle it in the box?

I too shall concede defeat regarding Heskey. However, Smiley Steve should still sod off.

We are down on the Heskey argument but, I would wager, not out.

Hey, the pro-Heskey group were only arguing that he should keep his place while he's on form. If he plays like utter crap next time out, we don't wanna hear, "I told you so!" because in those circumstances we'll agree his position needs to be reviewed The game last night was definitely won by the players and not McClaren though - Guus changed Russia's approach (picked out the weak defensive link in the two Coles very neatly) and we nearly paid for it immediately, but through the rest of the team getting stuck in we weathered the storm. Credit to McClaren for making the right decisions as the players go, but I didn't see him shouting any orders on countering Russia right when they could've done with 'em, in either half! Just imagine, that squad under a truly top coach... Still, McClaren's got the job now, and he's finally got his schnit together - I'll be judging him on whether he sticks with the form players, or goes back to his tried, tested and failed systems of old!
