Walsall 2-0 Stockport League Two promotion favourites Walsall lived up to their billing with a comfortable win over Stockport. Martin Butler opened the scoring with a low drive in the 16th minute after Hector Sam headed on a through-ball.
Defender Ian Roper then wrapped up the win two minutes into the second half with a towering header from an in-swinging corner by Kris Taylor.
But the night ended badly as Saddlers skipper Michael Dobson was carried off on a stretcher with a head injury.
