Going against the grain here, but I think he has a fair point. Just look at Cardiff's manager as a prime example - they lose 4 games in 6, and he starts getting death threats! That's fucking ridiculous I'm sorry, but I agree with Neville, and it's something I wondered about some time ago. It's standard aggressive behaviour - you start off with verbals, then comes throwing/spitting, then physical violence. Just look at playground bullies, or any court case where there's been a history of harrassment prior to assault. I certainly perceive there being a rise in cases of stuff being thrown - so who's to say the standard pattern won't follow yet again? Let's face it, stewarding is hardly a threat to any would-be invading fan nowadays. I think the fact that so many players and managers are coming out and saying this just might mean that there's something amiss. Even Avram Grant, when he defended the fans, said that there's a line that shouldn't be crossed - and it's being crossed more often now, which is why players are beginning to speak up. Even mister "hard as nails" Roy Keane himself - who lots of people on here have openly stated they admire/respect - said it's going too far. I don't care how much money they earn, death threats, physical violence (didn't Rooney get a golf ball thrown at him the other day? That sounds premeditated, IMO - golf balls are hardly everyday items) and abuse threatening their families is way over the line. They're still people, for fuck's sake. Yes, I know it's far worse in some other countries, that doesn't make it okay here. If anything, that should be an indication of what might be - so shouldn't we nip it in the bud?
