Wigan have released former captain Arjan de Zeeuw and fellow defender David Unsworth. De Zeeuw, 37, has made 203 appearances for Wigan while 33-year-old Unsworth's penalty against Sheffield United saved the Latics from relegation. New boss Chris Hutchings said: "Unsy's goal against Sheffield United will live long in the memory and its significance can never be underestimated. "Arjan is definitely one of the best professionals I have ever worked with." Speaking to Wigan's official website, Hutchings added: "Arjan has been a wonderful servant to Wigan, a true leader on and off the field and has been a major player for us in two spells here, and I've been privileged to work with him during both. "I wish him all the best in the future." Dutchman De Zeeuw made 146 appearances in his first spell at Wigan from 1999 to 2002. He left for Portsmouth but returned to the JJB Stadium in 2005, making a further 57 appearances. Unsworth joined Wigan in January from Sheffield United. His penalty against the Blades on the last day of the season sealed a victory for Wigan which saved them from relegation - and condemned the Blades to the drop. Thats gratitude for ya. Keep them up and get released
