Harry Redknapp has revealed he has agreed a deal with Kanu and is confident the Nigerian forward will play a big role for Portsmouth in the new campaign.
Kanu is available on a free transfer, following West Brom's relegation, and he seems poised to make the move to Pompey.
Redknapp expects the contract to be inked in the coming days and is looking forward to working with the former Arsenal man.
"It is sorted out with him and we are waiting to get it all signed up," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "We have agreed it all with him and we are pleased to have him.
"He has terrific ability and I am pleased to have him. He is a good free transfer.
"He has bags of ability. Bryan Robson, who had him at West Brom last year, liked him very much.
"He is a good character, a good trainer, and a good player."
Kanu does not have the greatest goalscoring record for a centre forward, but Redknapp feels he will prove his worth in the new term.
"He is capable of scoring goals and if we get him further up the pitch he will score goals," added Redknapp.
"But his qualities are that he can make goals for other people and he has fantastic ability on the ball.
"I am sure he will play a big part for us."
The arrival of Kanu could cast doubt over the future of Zimbabwean striker Benjani but, despite reported interest from St Etienne, Redknapp has no intention of selling the former Auxerre man.
"There is no chance of 'Benji' going anywhere," declared Redknapp.
