Since a couple of people have asked, I'm gonna put a practice challenge up for you before the first official September one. No points for this, but no deadline either, so do it at your leisure. It's a good way to get some early con-crit (constructive criticism) in though, as well as to warm up for the proper thing, so if you fancy it, go for it! Practice Fic Challenge Topic: Time So you can have a character racing against the clock/late for something, mention a clock/watch in passing, write something based on time travel, have a time bomb, have a character remark that it's tea time - anything like that. Have fun! ;D (I won't normally give you hints, but as this is a practice run I thought I'd give you an idea of the sort of range you can cover

hmm. Struggling to find that initial hint of inspiration. I keep thinking for some unknown reason of the Rolf Harris song 'Tie me kangaroo down sport'.

Lol! ;D And you said my 'Afroman' thing was bad I generally find the inspiration doesn't click immediately; you'll sometimes just get slapped by an idea right when you don't have time to do anything with it. Might be an idea to put two or three topics up, if inspiration for one alone doesn't work...

I have 185 words about bath time at the minute, but it really is quite dull.

he's bionic - he'll have them all marked and have made some toast in little more than 14 seconds.

Lol Ships! ;D Yeah, it does sometimes come slowly - I've lost track of the amount of times I've started something, then given up halfway and tried it another way. I often find it helps not to think about the subject itself (i.e. Time), but things you associate with it - what is time relevant to? Why is it an issue? What's it all about? One story I wrote really did just start off with me writing my thoughts on the topic down, and it just snowballed into a plot eventually (I was reflecting on how people change - opening lines were, "People change. Love changes people, life changes people, time changes people.") Give yourself a bit of a 'just scribbling/typing thoughts' session, and see what comes of it And Han, the plan as goes submitting/marking is that I'll read and review the entries as they come in (though I'd expect a rush towards the end of the deadline, naturally), and 'mark' them once the deadline passes, i.e. while the next one's active. That'll hopefully be done within a week, though it obviously depends on quantity and the amount of time I have available. As the deadline for submitting goes; ideally, I'll leave a challenge between the 1st-3rd of the month, and they'd be in by the end of it. If people are "almost done", I'm willing to allow another 2 or 3 days, but certainly not beyond the 3rd of the next month (i.e. the challenges shouldn't overlap).

Good good! I've started one, and as per tradition, have decided I don't like it and intend to re-start. The trouble there being that I've got 2 days to write it! Probably not happening That said, I've got two better subjects to choose between for September's theme (i.e. I will choose one of the two) so with any luck, we'll all have more ideas for it!
