"The reputation of Liverpool fans took another pummelling last night when it was revealed that the ambulance taking Alan Smith to hospital had come under attack outside Anfield. Supporters surrounded the vehicle while throwing missiles and shouting "Munich scum" in reference to the plane crash that killed 23 people, including eight Manchester United players, in 1958. Bottles, beer glasses and stones were hurled as the ambulance became stuck in heavy traffic after Saturday's FA Cup tie. Witnesses also claim the ambulance was rocked as some Liverpool followers tried to overturn it. A spokesman for the Merseyside ambulance trust confirmed the attack and condemned the people responsible. "It did not result in any delay in transferring the player to hospital . . . but the trust cannot condone this type of behaviour while administering emergency treatment."
How stupid but because they are one of the Establishment teams, and the scousers are holier than the pope, I'm sure this story will be brushed under the FA carpet.

What's more worrying is how they knew it was the one with Smithy in. What if they'd got it wrong?

Yeah good point.
What would they have done if they managed to get the doors open, they were putting not only Smithy's life at risk, but those of the Paramedics.
Scousers will get away with it though....imagine if it had been Leeds fans!

Very true! Leeds would never have get away wih an apology.
It would be headline news - Police vow to catch all involved etc.
Having said that it's just as sick as the yobs who hurl missiles and harrass firefighters and paramedics whilst they attend incidents and emergencies.

I'm surprised the bloody scouse gits didn't try and rob the wheels. Like you all say if it was Leeds fans and I use the term fan loosely then the media attention doesn't bear thinking about probably ban Leeds away fans from every ground and all that crap but it will never be mentioned again and by Monday it will seem like it never happened

they're all dickheads whoever did it.
Not fit to be called football fans. Saw this earlier and couldn't believe it. At some point they themselves will probably need to use ambulance/paramedic so why act so stupidly??
Smudger had a general anasthetic so fortunately didn't know anything about it. Thank God for that, would have been awful for him given the disoriented state he was already in.
Let's hear what Liverpool have to say about this!!
