Luton defender Sol Davis will serve a three-game suspension after an appeal against his dismissal against Stoke was dismissed by the Football Association.
Davis saw red in the 37th minute of the 0-0 away draw after a challenge on Potters striker Mamady Sidibe.
The 27-year-old will now miss the games against Sheffield Wednesday, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
After the game Hatters boss Mike Newell said: "It was as good a tackle as I have seen for a long while."
Newell added on the club's website: "The referee's report says Sol used excessive speed and force in a tackle.
"Now, as far as I am aware, there is nothing in the rules to limit your speed or your force if it is on the ball.
"You are setting a precedent because how can you possibly limit the speed at which you make a challenge."
Davis is also at the centre of police and FA investigations into an alleged fracas in the players' lounge at the Britannia Stadium.

What a joke
Are the players supposed to be equipped with speedometers or something so they know if they're going too fast then? How fast are you allowed to go? Does this rule also affect how fast you're allowed to make the ball travel at, or does it only affect the defending team?Referee's a wanker!
