Four Norwich City first team players and a number of staff have been struck down sick following the club's annual barbecue party.
About 30 people have suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea after Sunday's social event at the training ground in Colney, which attracted 250-300 staff and family guests.
The cause of the outbreak is being investigated by South Norfolk District Council officers, including the possibility it could have come from a virus and may not be directly linked to the food being served.
The club used an outside contractor to supply the catering to give staff at Delia's Canary Catering the opportunity to enjoy themselves at the event too.
The four players affected out of a 28-strong squad have been forced to forego training for Saturday's game.
But it is understood that this will not have an adverse impact on the team's performance, although managers will still have to wait and see if any more players are struck down.
A club spokesman said last night: "City today confirmed a number of its staff, including four senior professional players, have been taken ill following a social event on Sunday.
"Players, staff and their families attended an annual informal summer event at the club's Colney training centre, following which approximately 30 people who were at the event have suffered symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea.
"Those Norwich City Football Club employees affected have been given time off from work and training.
"The club has contacted the Environmental Health department of South Norfolk District Council and is awaiting more information from them before commenting further."
