As I said a one bed flat where I currently live costs over £200k and you can halve that for the burbs. This hopefully means I can get a 2 bedder without breaking the bank.

The problem with central London is that there is a massive rental market which keeps the market bouyant. Plus a lot of people over the years have built up massive property portfolios which have kept a lot of 1st timers off the ladder as they cant afford as these people just snap them up as they can. They reckon in london the average age of the first time buyers is over 35!
This also means that if the property market goes tits London will be largely unaffected.

TK Could be a big move for me moving out of London and everything. Will have to wait and see have a couple of other options which I will not disregard yet. The senible option is to move out as the housing is a bit cheaper (yet still extortionate) anbd I have to buy at some point. Midlands ;D I have a three bed Semi bought four years ago for £88,000 currently worth approx 140,000 Cheap Cheap Cheap ;D Same here Dan. I bought my first house 3 years ago for £39,000. Sold it last year for £71,000 ;D

Houses are just ridiculous at the moment The best I can find in Luton is a one-bed studio apartment for in excess of £55k - and apparently that's "an ideal first-time buy." I want to aim a bit higher than that, thanks One-bed flats are going in excess of £100k; I'm on 16k a year - I'm fooked!

THE cheapest you could get something in London for is around £100k. No less. That will be a one bed flat in somewhere you really would not want to live either.

My mother in law lives in a four bed about six miles from me (in the countryside) in three quarters of an acre of garden valued just before Xmas at 250,000
