WHEN AIDY MET COLLINS...
WATFORD boss Aidy Boothroyd has revealed that he met transfer target Collins John on Wednesday, aiming to convince the Dutchman to join the Hornets.
Having already agreed a £3.25million fee with Fulham, Aidy finally got the chance to sit down with the 21-year-old and show him the details of his ambitious plans for Watford.
"I met with Collins John yesterday", Aidy said. "It was all very good. I thought it was very positive so now it's a question of waiting and seeing. I liked what I heard from him and I liked what I saw. Having now met him, I've got a good feeling about the guy and I hope that he felt the same about me.
"I told him that I think this club has a great opportunity to be a top ten club for 2010. We have the three year plan to achieve that and it's going to be a lot harder than what we did last year because of the standards and quality in this league but I've got great aspirations for this club and I know that the chairman and board share them."
Aidy acknowledged that he is unaware of any other clubs who may be in the race for the former FC Twente front man.
"I don't know if Collins is speaking to anyone else. All I can do is concentrate on my own sales job and describe to him how I see his career moving forward with Watford FC. I firmly believe we can be a platform for him to realise all his dreams, both internationally and domestically."
When pressed on how long he is likely to have to wait for a response, Aidy admitted that he was hoping to hear something soon.
"I'll be making a pestering call to him today to get an idea of how he's feeling but if the guy needs more time to make a decision, then I understand that because it's a massive, massive step for him."
Should the Dutchman opt for a move to Vicarage Road, the boss is hoping that he won't be the last new face to move to Hertfordshire this month.
"I'm trying like mad to bring in some other players and I'm quite positive. My phone is ringing a lot more and more people are taking my calls so hopefully we'll be able to do a bit more business before the end of the month."
