Okay, so I'm thinking about setting up a kind of 'betting league' on here, for a bit of fun. I'm still tinkering with a couple of bits on it, but it's certainly workable.
The basic premise is that once a week (or whenever I can), I'd pick a number of matches from ladbrokes.com (maybe 20, maybe 40 - not sure yet - spread across the leagues), and put them on the board along with their odds. People in said league could then bet on as many or as few as they wanted, with whatever stake they like, doing accumulators, doubles, trebles etc or just straight bets. Upon joining, you'd get, say, £200, and it's up to you how you wager it. If you join late, you get the same £200 starting money, and if you miss a week, no biggie, you still have the money for next time.
Obviously, it's all for fun; I'll keep a record of the bets, results and total cash available to you on a spreadsheet (available on request). As things progress, I might evolve it a bit more to include first goalscorer etc, but I'd keep it basic at first to see how smoothly it runs.
Of course, there's a 'league' format to it, rating members highest to lowest according to how much money they have, maybe more advanced stuff like average return per bet etc, just to give a bit of a competitive feel to it. Maybe there'd be monthly bonuses for people at the top or something too (after all, one really good bet could throw you right up there!)
Before I go any further with the idea, though, I wanna gauge likely interest in it. So who'd be up for it? And any suggestions as to the number of matches, starting money etc?

You know Neko,i was gonna mention this as one of my first changes. I reckon it would be good if run correctly. Just needs to be kept fresh to keep interest up.
Set your stall out then run it past staff and we will give you the backing you require.

I took the time to detail an initial proposal, which apparently makes all the difference! ;D

Well, looks like there's a little interest, at least Anyone got any thoughts as to how much money we start with? Is £200 not enough, too much, okay? Also, how many games should I offer up, and from how many leagues? Doing every single game on the site would take an age, but obviously only having 10 to play with is nowhere near enough. Premier league teams are covered in more detail in the press; should I always include all of those games? Do any of you know a damn thing about the Conference teams? (I don't care what Blue Square call it, it's the conference! ) Should I include international games, or are they too likely to leave you all tearing your hair out? Feedback please, people!

I reckon once it starts and folk see what it is all about you will get some good interest in it. If you want to bet karma we can sort that out.

Nah, I think just being given a hypothetical sum of money to start with is probably better - it's easier to use, and there won't be any behind-the-scenes karma rigging to check up on (Come on, you know the accusation's waiting to be levelled... ) Let's just leave the karma for its main purpose, whatever that is!

I'd be interested! I'm sure Rich would too, but i doubt he'd be very good, given his record in real life!

I'd be interested! I'm sure Rich would too, but i doubt he'd be very good, given his record in real life! Should I take that as a sign of interest, then? I've created a spreadsheet; so far, I've got Me, Billy, Gres, Alex and Rich on there - Chopper, should I assume you're in too? Got it all set up nicely, so that it'll take all of 30 seconds to add a new member, and aside from manually recording the bets for posterity, it's largely self-automated! What could possibly go wrong? ;D I'll pass my final plan to the mods soon-ish, and get it started ASAP - just bear in mind there'll probably be a break for one weekend when I'm away visiting Shini, since I won't be getting back 'til the morning of Sat 16th! (That being the weekend I'd miss - I'll try to get the odds for that weekend up while I'm out there, but obviously I'm flying out to spend time with her first and foremost Still need answers to my questions! Which leagues? (I'm currently thinking Prem through League 2, and maybe Scottish Prem) How many games? (30? 40? Do I want to bias in favour of one league?) Include internationals? (Do we really know enough about the relative teams' strengths when Mali play Burkina Faso?) Starting money? (£200 sounds good to me; agreed?)

Leagues: What you said sounds fine. How many?: Around 40 sounds good, perhaps bias Prem and Champ, (after all this is technically the Championship forum. ) Internationals: Only include major teams in internationals, perhaps the top 20 ranked teams in the World and their respective games? £200 sounds fine.

I think the thing about only including the top 20 is that, for the most part, that'd just leave dead cert results - Germany vs San Marino, Italy vs Andorra? If I'm doing internationals, it'd probably have to be a broad selection or nothing - maybe only do European and South American games? (World Cup excluded, obviously!)

£200!!! Seems a bit steep mate! Given £200 to start off with seems steep? So would you say more or less then? I want enough to ensure no-one's gonna get wiped in a couple of weeks, but not so much that you can just go insane either...

Okay, how does this sound?
- Given £200 to start off with. - 40 games per week, where possible; all Prem and Champ games (10+13), with the remaining slots filled up by randomly-chosen L1 and L2 games (have, say, a 10:7 split between them). - When internationals are being played featuring European or S. American teams, these games may replace the above (Euro/WC qualifiers, international breaks etc). These two continents have been selected since they're probably the two we know best as far as football goes. - Cup matches (FA/League/UEFA/CL) may replace the above too.
Does that sound alright?
