If I'm honest, as best I'm aware she's the first native American I've ever met, so I'm struggling to avoid stereotypical mental images too at times - she's really good about it; she said if I have questions, I can just ask and she won't take offence, which is useful! When she told me she lived on one of the reservations, I wasn't sure whether to imagine a normal-looking town or tipis everywhere! Normal town, apparently; they just have a tribal government that can tell the national one to stuff it if their rulings cause a culture clash
