The world of rock , indie , electronica is dominated by Anglocentric groups ie from the USA and Britain but of course there is a burgeoning European sound.
Bands from Scandinavia ie The Cardigans have made it big in Britain but do you have a European band you'd like to recommend ?
I especially like Within Temptation from Holland and Air and Indochine from France and of course Rammstein from Germany.
Older bands such as The Scorpions can be included.

I assume 'European' means mainland Europe?
If so, Brainstorm and Z-SCARS, both from Latvia, are well worth a listen.
Brainstorm - Kitten
(Apologies for the anime video; it's the only version on youtube!)
Z-SCARS - Tu Tuvojies Sev

Oh, and Mew.

Europe Neko. Addition of genre of band would be useful as I may check some of these out.

Europe Neko. Addition of genre of band would be useful as I may check some of these out. Thing is, I could quite easily say Oasis (for instance) in that case - bit of a wasted thread then! My two are both rock; Z-SCARS make me think of some of RHCP's more laid-back stuff, while Brainstorm are also easy to listen to, but have a more chipper mood about them. Not sure I can think of a group to compare them to off the top of my head! Another group worth mentioning are Sonata Arctica, from Feenland - they're in the same sort of vein as the likes of Dragonforce, but have a much more 'classic' metal influence to them. "Iron Maiden with keyboards" would perhaps be a bit generous, but that's the area. Their 'Ecliptica' album is my favourite; highlights include Kingdom For A Heart, Full Moon, Replica, Letters To Dana and Destruction Preventer.

Nightwish would be the stand-out band for me, although Rammstein are usually good to listen to.
Primal Fear are another excellent band

In Flames (masterful Swedes, going to see them for the 4th time soon)
Soilwork (Swedish nutters, seen them twice)
Children Of Bodom (Technical Finnish thrashers, guitar solos sound like missiles spiralling into the sky)
Rammstein (past their best now but circa Sensucht plied the best Teutonic industrial mash up around. Put on an awesome show at Nottingham Arena in 2005)
Sentenced - Amazing Finnish doom metal band, who split in 2006 and have sadly recently lost guitarist and main songwriter Miika Tenkula to alcoholism.
Others
Sonata Arctica (Finland) Dimmu Borgir (Norway) Nightwish (Finland) Helloween (Germany) Vader (Poland) Amorphis (Finland) Candlemass (Sweden) Satyricon (Norway)
They all fucking rule
And who can forget EUROPE themselves?

not a fan of Rammstein but their cover of Barbie Girl makes me smile That's not actually Rammstein doing it - it's a Dutch group/artist called Ome Henk. So I guess that takes away your one reason to like them ;D

If we're just talking bands/groups then I'd offer....
CSS, Those Dancing Days, The Cardigans for the indie category
Air, Daft Punk, Justice, Soulwax (on account of their 2 Many DJs stuff) for chill out/dance.
If we're going to include solo artists then Bjork obviously must figure, and I like a bit of Emiliana Torrini too.
