You're too young to know what they were like Creepy. But seriously after the Hillsborough tragedy stadia needed updating. However now is an oppurtunity to have managed terraces as in Germany. Tickets for those are even cheaper than the ones for seating which are already cheap and those areas of th ground generate huge noise. It would be one way of attracting fans who are beiong priced out of the game and a good place for kids to start. Of course the terracing will be nothing like those of old. It will have to be stewarded and numbers limited to avoid crushes etc and people running down to the front celebrating a goal. But if football is really fan friendly then it should offer fans the choice of sitting or standing. Its annoying when you get up to shout or cheer and some prawn sandwich eater asks you to sit down. Or some prat of a steward asks you to pipe down. Its a football match not a night at the ballet for gods sake. I'm with you JBL.

Isn't the German system something to the effect of there being two steps to stand on (i.e. for two rows of people), then a railing, then two steps, then a railing etc, with gangways every so often to let people move up and down? If so, that makes sense to me - prevents crushes (short of total stupidity within the crowd), but is still genuine terracing. That sort of system, I'd be willing to see trialled over here, just to see if your average football fan is capable of utilising such a system. It'd be nice to say, "Of course he/she is!" but let's be realistic here...

I hope it does get the go ahead. The new stadia should be able to incorporate it and existing ones would not take much modification. Its worked well in Germany and they have their own nutjobs so I can't see why its being done. Health and safety no doubt would try to stop it.

You'll have the makings of an SAS soldier then Creepy. Good for the circulation. ;D When I've sat in the Rous (here at Watford)and the wind is coming from the east into the stand (usually December to January), even wrapped up your backside can become a block of ice. But its a shame. Also this rule on not bringing in drinks. Its just an excuse for football clubs and cricket grounds to rip off the punter. If any nutjob lobs one on, the CCTV should be able to identify them and have them banned for life. You don't have to buy of course. However as a young nipper back in 87/88 my dad had a bag of sandwiches and thermos of tea as refreshments.

Lol I have always been told my sense of Direction is good, when im at the cricket ground (hove) I know where North East is, South East (Where I sometimes site, the North East Corner where the Pav is and Indoor school. Anyway, i've heard in some posts the word "Hilsborough" being mentioned. We all know it was a disaster, my mate's great uncle died that day, but I dont think terraces will be that much harm in the premiership. I agree to pring them back so I'll add my name later

Sorry to hear that. Some of the tabloid press really disgraced themselves with the photographs they showed and the jokes they made at the expense of the dead. Thumbs up for joining the petition, though Broon no doubt has more 'serious' issues to contemplate.

Most of the time at Crawley when ever the Stewards see us standing up they normally tell us to be seated. There is way more excitment and atmosphere when standing up, but I just cant do it in the cold, have done before and it was miserable. In the April time when its "hot" . Its way more easy to stand up and feel the atmosphere, and when your standing up you can bring in a drum like my mate does and have a laugh

Terraces are gash from what I've experienced (Cardiff, Luton, Colchester, Exeter City and Bristol City away) If you have someone infront of you thats taller - you're fucked. If you arrive late you have a gash view, so you have to arrive early - which is stupid. Also if you go for a piss it's hard to find whoever you were stood with...
I happily stand for the whole 90 minutes at St Marys, every week.

In olden days of yore, fans just urinated on the terraces themselves, so when a ground was deserted a la The Death Valley nettles sprang up really quickly. Stewards are in general A grade pricks. Those at Watford are A+ in this respect.
