......... do half an hours execise 3 hours before going to bed, then have a milky drink about half and hour before going to bed!!
If this doesn't work start taping Heartbeat off the telly, and watch before going to sleep. You probably won't make through the opening credits before you're fast off, it's soooooooo dull!!

A guy came into work yesterday at 11.30, some 3 hours late, it would have been later had his supervisor not rung him up at home to wake him up. ;D

alcohol? Alcohol makes you restless and actually hinders your nights sleep. Plus I don't want to become a raging alcoholic William!! True - but I find if I have enough of it I have no problem sleeping They say a bath is supposed to be good - oh, and someone once told me that eating lettuce sandwiches helps you sleep, because lettuce is high in laudenum (sp?) which apparently helps you sleep

As I regularly suffered with insomnia, as I generally whittle and worry about things in general ...... after doing what I suggested I very rarely can't sleep. ....... although if I go down the Heartbeat route, I occasionally find myself sat at work the next morning with my hair in a beehive hairstyle!!

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do about your mind whirring, it sounds a bit lame to say "count sheep" but that's all I can think of. Or there's pills, but I wouldn't recommend that route tbh...

It's been nearly 2 weeks since I had a full night's sleep. I'm so tired I could cry right now. The beehive image made me chuckle though You've just dropped out of the routine of sleeping. I know how frustrating it can be, at best I get 6 hours sleep a night ...... but there have been times where I've gone through long periods managing on 1-4 hours a night. You should try and establish a routine for going to bed, so your body know it's time to shut down for the night and you get back in synch ......... although I know it's difficult, it helps!!

A herbal remedy that's supposed to help is "taking Belladonna with wine or beer," though I appreciate that herb's not exactly common. It's also poisonous, narcotic and an aphrodisiac, so a measure of caution is advised! I may be able to find out some more stuff at home; I bought a book about herby stuff recently, and I remember a couple of them mentioned aiding sleep.

It's difficult at the moment to get myself into a rountine at the moment Kieran. It's not helping been under my parents feet at the moment. Problem is I'm exhausted at work but I'm wide awake in the evenings.

I used to start wondering where the sheep were going when they jumped over the fence, and that sort of thing... too active an imagination! No sheep jokes please btw! I know that problem... sometimes I almost fall asleep on the bus home from work, but once I'm home I get like a "second wind" in the evenings... which is nice, but doesn't help the next morning! Lots of eye rolling going on here... *yawns luxuriantly*

Done some searching online, the following are all recommended:
# Go to bed at the same time each night # Avoid having a TV in the bedroom # Get moderate exercise daily # Try a milky drink before bed # Avoid too much alcohol # Avoid eating or drinking a lot late at night # Try relaxing with yoga, hypnosis or listening to music
I also find that I sleep better when I follow certain 'sleep habits.' For instance, I always sleep better when I'm cuddled up to something, even if it's just an extra pillow - that helps me more than worrying about if I'm on my front, side or back. Maybe you need something to that sort of effect?
I also find that having a little background noise that I'm used to (a computer tower that's still switched on, for instance) helps me, since it's a familiar sound and it masks other possibly distracting background noises. That's a bit 50:50 though; some people prefer silence.
