Aye. Fred Trueman. (RIP) Monty's not a bad batsman at all. Has Geoffrey been sayig he could bowl him out with his cap on. Big test for Monty. Not been doing as great last year. Thought Bishen Bedi might have taught something ie the flight and variation is important. Monty just seems to have stock bowled mechanically for a year. This his is pitch. If Benn can do well on it Monty should outperform him. India crush SL again in the ODI series. This time Dhoni and Gambhir are the executioners v-v Sehwag and Yuvraj the other day.

It strikes me that the England bowling coaches really don't know how to teach him - or perhaps, much like Giles, they simply prefer him to just hold up an end, and are teaching him to do so. Unlike the King of Spain, though, I think Monty could be a potent attacking bowler, if taught more variation and taught to use it. Is it simply an English affliction; being afraid to fully utilise the spinners?

Unlike the King of Spain, though, I think Monty could be a potent attacking bowler, if taught more variation and taught to use it. Is it simply an English affliction; being afraid to fully utilise the spinners? Under Vaughn there was still a reticence to use Monty in the said role. And like you say Neko almost used either to rest a paceman or change ends for them. A couple of boundaries and the skip comes in and probably asks spinner to bowl it faster and flatter. Pitches haven't helped much either for spinners. Monty is still young and learning his craft. Underwood says he was picking up new thing until the time he retired. Perhaps Monty could take a look at Ojha the young Indian spinner who is quite happy to vary his pace and toss it up. Mind you spinning around the world has been marginalised. Shame as adds an extra level of intrigue to the game.

Windies 144-1 presently. I fear a humiliation may be on the cards...

Not very accurate tbh, since some teams have played much more than others. I know its done on averages but its not accurate regardless as you can't predict results.

I know its done on averages but its not accurate regardless as you can't predict results. It's as good a ranking system as I can see, short of measuring it over, say, the last 20 test played. That said, I think that'd drop England even lower

Day 2 ends with England 318 all out and Windies 160-1. Think they've had the best of pretty much every session so far...

What a shocker. Windies are no great shakes either yet breezed to win day 2 comfortably. SA are probably number one right now with India a close second. Some bright prospects in both teams ie Duminy and Ishant Sharma. Oz will come back no doubt for this summer. And on this showing albeit one test it doesn't look good for Moores and co.
