Amir Khan will meet seven-time world champion Marco Antonio Barrera on 14 March at an unspecified British venue. The 34-year-old Mexican is a former champion at three weights and has won 64 of his 71 fights. "I was a fan and I am a fan - but when you're in the ring, you have no respect for any of your opponents, you go in and do a job," Khan told BBC Sport. "I think I've got everything to beat him. With my youth and speed, I think I'll just outbox him." Squaring up to Barrera is undoubtedly the biggest test that Khan, 22, has faced so far in his career. "I think he's made for me," added Khan. "He's shorter than me, and has moved up quickly to lightweight." Last time out in December, Khan beat Irishman Oisin Fagan in his first bout since suffering the first loss of his career against Breidis Prescott last September. The Olympic lightweight silver medallist split from trainer Jorge Rubio after that defeat and is now guided by Freddie Roach. Barrera, who inflicted Prince Naseem Hamed's first career defeat back in 2001, won his first world title in 1995, and has faced the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales. Khan said he would seek Hamed's advice and learn from the former world champion's mistakes. "I'm sure Naseem knows what mistakes he made and will tell me the mistakes that he doesn't want me to make," he said. "Nas is a great guy so I'll have a chat with him and see what he thinks." Warren said he had initially been looking to match Barrera with another of his fighters, and admitted it was a bit of a gamble. "A lot of people might look at this and think 'he's in the deep end here' - maybe, but I believe with good punchers in the ring it's all about timing, and outside the ring it's about picking the right moment and right time - I hope I've got it right," he told BBC Sport. "I don't worry about his fitness or punching power, all I wonder about is Amir staying focused and his head movement. "Provided he does that, I think Amir can give a great display and beat Barrera."

Indeed! Just found out! Bloody hell! Barrera is getting on a bit so Kahn's speed could trouble him but still!

khan still needs to improve his defence as ive stated before, barrera might be getting on a bit but this is a real test for khan..if khan sticks to his game plan and uses his boxing skills and speed he should win but khan gets dragged into a war far to often and against barrera that could be very dangerous

This will create so much hype in the press during the build up. Expect the "I'll avenge him for Nas" to be quoted a few times. Should be a good match mind you.

Just confirmed:
Ricky Hatton's light-welterweight fight with Filipino Manny Pacquiao is definitely on, BBC Sport understands.
Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams has told BBC Sport than an agreement was confirmed at the weekend.
A press conference has been called for later in the week to announce full details of where and when the fight will happen.
The development follows weeks of uncertainty after Pacquiao's camp wanted a 60-40 split of the purse.
Should be another cracking fight!

If Barrera is even 60% of the fighter he once was then Khan will lose. I think the feeling is he's shot though, coupling that with a move up in weight for Barrera the Khan camp obviously feel it's a very winnable match. I think it's just a matter of time with Khan ........ he is going to get knocked out again!!
Hatton/Pacquiao is much better match ........ no doubt it'll be PPV but it could be so good I might cough up the reddies for it!!

Khan weighed 134.5lbs Barrera weighed 135lbs Khan looks less bulkier than his recent fights. Thinner arms I reckon. Look at Frank Warren and Don King in the background, the smug wankers. Khan is favourite, imo. With Roach in his corner, Khan's youth, speed, power and guidance from Roach who knows how to beat Barrera... I'm not sure Barrera has the power to knock Khan out either. If he does have the power, then he will realise it and go for the kill. He has looked motivated for this fight from what I've seen of him, though. With his skills and experiences i wouldn't be surprised if he did pull it off. This is the true test of Khan's chin.

Come on Amir, give him a good hiding. I would love to see him win but unless he smacks out Barrera in the first couple of rounds he will lose.

Nearly time! Got my stream on www32.websamba.com/videosports/ (streams 1 and 3) - thanks to Arnie for that ;D I think Khan'll start out too cautious, and will end up too keen to compensate for it later on and end up getting tagged - MAB for the win, I think; a good shot on Khan's chin will tell us a lot, and the man's got the ability to land it if he brings all his nous along for the fight. And Maccarinelli just got stopped! Sweet punch flattened him; ref threw the fight out!

I didn't have any opinions on the fight; it was mostly the timing that got me - just as I finished that prediction, I clicked back to the other window and saw a big right come flying in!

That clash of heads could be the telling factor in this fight, so far... Khan's looked the better fighter, but he's not done anything remotely as damaging as that incident...

Bit disappointed with that, in the end. Khan outboxed Barrera, but even with that cut, he was starting to find his feet - had the match gone on a few more rounds, I'd have fancied him to have started causing some real problems. He landed a good'un just before the stoppage, and was looking more comfortable.
Pity about that clash - ruined what was shaping up to be a great fight. Can't fault Khan's performance though - the defence especially was massively improved. From his POV, that clash would be a disappointment too, as it gives the nay-sayers something to latch onto.

Get in! Amir was just to quick for him and didn't do anything wrong, yes the clash of heads effected the match significantly, but Khan was the better fighter on the night.

Yeah, was a real shame it got stopped. I'd imagine deep down Kahn was annoyed it got stopped too. We don't know if he would've gone on to beat him nor not! Barrera was never hurt. He would've got into the fight more had he not been cut. Khan's defence isn't completely sorted, and i don't think it ever will be. Khan also won't be winning a world title any time soon. Instead it will be about 3 'eliminators' and one rematch with Prescott perhaps. He will get knocked out by Marquez, Casamayour, Katsidis, Romanov and possibly Juan Diaz. A fight with Guzman might be interesting. I think the way the fight ended theres more questions not answers, Kahn hasn't proved anything or proved any doubters wrong, this win is just a notch for him. Glad I didn't pay for Box Office! ;D

That isn't Kahn bashing by the way, I hoped he would win, but I think he is in the position now where he has beaten a legend of the sport but proved nothing. Which can't be satisfactory for anyone but the bandwagon/fairweather boxing fans.
