Cobra Starship - Hot MessGot this album in the post yesterday morning, but have already listened to it ten times, which in such a short space of time is unheard of for me. This album is the third one from this band, and bordering on being the joint best album with their last album '¡Viva La Cobra!'. A lot of electro sounds, great beats which border on being playable in clubs such as the track 'Hot Mess', as well as being capable of reaching out to the mainstream with their lead single 'Good Girls Go Bad (feat. Leighton Meester)'. This, coupled with the terrific pop opener 'Nice Guys Finish Last' and upbeat dance-like track 'Living In The Sky With Diamonds', means there is a very varied album here, which means it doesn't get boring too quickly. Only a short album at 37:14, but I feel this is the right length for such an album; any shorter and it wouldn't be enough, and any more and it could become repetitive. Unfortunately they haven't even released this album in the UK, so I've had to import it from America, at a cost of £15 which could put other listeners off purchasing it. Overall another good album from this American band, and one I hope gets more coverage over in the UK. 8/10.

The Offspring - Greatest HitsPerhaps unsurprisingly, this album presents the band just as I remember them - not immensely talented, but a lot of fun, and sounds good 8/10

Sonata Arctica - Silence
The band's second album; many critics said it had a more mature feel to it than Ecliptica, and while I agree with this, that doesn't in and of itself mean it's better. While by no means a bad album, it just doesn't have that same draw that Ecliptica has - some tracks are fantastic (most notably Black Sheep), but the album as a whole just doesn't have the same power or energy behind it.

Manic Street Preachers - Generation Terrorists
The third of my christmas albums, and by far my favourite. Right from the opening Slash And Burn, it's clear that the album is something special, and there's not a single bad track among all eighteen on there (or thirteen, if you're in the US). Among the highlights are classic Manics tracks Motorcycle Emptiness, You Love Us and Little Baby Nothing, but numerous others warrant a mention in the same breath - enough that you'd run out of breath if you tried to do so.
James Dean Bradfield's guitar work is superb (he played all guitars for the album), and Nick and Richey's lyrics are utterly inspired. This is probably a contender for one of the greatest debut albums ever, and was a hell of a way for them to announce their presence to the world. Holy Bible was better, in my opinion, but it really only just shaves it, and Generation Terrorists is certainly the more accessible of the two.
9/10

Andrew WK - I Get Wet
If you've heard 'We Want Fun', 'Party Hard' and/or 'She Is Beautiful', you know what to expect from this album. AWK lives to party, and this album is an explosion of that energy - lots of fun rocking out, with some truly memorable tracks. It's not the most technical piece ever created, and he doesn't experiment all that much, but it's too much fun to really care about that ;D
7.5/10

The Sunshine Underground - Nobody's Coming to Save You.
This is their eagerly awaited (for me anyway!) second album. Their debut album, Raise the Alarm, was one of my favourite albums of 2006, with every song on it being one that I could dance around to. I luckily got to do this at an intimate gig of theirs..where I also danced with a Pigeon Detective, so that was pretty good!
Anyway, this album. I always get scared in a way of listening to the second album from a band whose first album I hold in such high regard. So I warily stuck this album on and the first song, Coming to Save You, kicks off the album with heavy drums and guitars, so I'm hooked already! The chorus kicks off and I go from nodding my head to the beat, to full on dancing (because I'm really cool obviously). I like it so much, I start the album again! "Get on your hands and your knees toniiiiiight....cos you must be dreeeeeamiiiing"
I equally love the second song too! I'm not sure the rest of the album lives up to the first two songs, maybe I need to listen to them a few more times. It happens a lot with me, I sometimes need a few listens to really appreciate an album. So I'm going to wait until I've done that to give it a proper judgement. But I think I already know that it's not as good as their debut.
