So now some Blades players are going to sue West Ham becasue they suffered financially because of Carlos Tevez. Seriously if you were better players or had put your arse in gear and beaten Wigan you wouldn't have suffered. You don't know what suffering financially is...wankers. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7637184.stm

Is it? It's really beginning to annoy me. When well off individuals are starting to sue for their pound of flesh, when the rest of the country is suffering financially, it frankly gets on my tits.

you'll let anything on them justice was not rightly carried out originally in the tevez case, ie no points deduction, this is the backlash. its sad but its the premier league's fault

You blew it. our points advantage is irrelevant! 5 million pounds is a nothing fine for a premier league team and you know it, and so does that idiot Scudmore who is now fighting for his job! what would happen if you fielded an ineligible player in the fa cup? and how pray-tell did tevez become eligible after the fine?

You had a 10 point advantage. You blew it. Did Carl Lewis blow it in the 1988 Olympic 100m final when he finished second to Ben Johnson? I don't think so, because Ben Johnson was taking performance enhancing substances. Therefore, Lewis was declared the winner even though he didn't actually win the race. the point being that the race was not fair. One person stepped outside the rules to get an advantage. In the 2006-7 premier league season we finished 17th out of 19 sides who played to the rules. There was a 20th side who deliberately broke the rules in order to secure the services of a world class player. A player they felt could enhance the performance of the team and thereby get them an advantage over other teams. And what is mind boggling is that what has emerged from the tribunal seems to show that they continued to flout the rules even after the premier league had passed judgement and imposed their £5 million penalty. And why did they continue to flout the rules, having just escaped a points deduction much to the disbelief of the whole footballing world? If Tevez is just one man and couldn't single handedly save them from relegation, why take that sort of risk? After all, any other player would do. It's a team game, etc, etc etc. Simple really. I would suspect they thought Tevez was absolutely crityical to their chances of survival. Otherwise they wouldn't have taken the risk. Tevez quite clearly enhanced the performance of that team. I repeat. We finished 17th out of 19 teams playing to the same rules as each other. The 20th side chose to play to different rules than anyone else and in so doing I think they forfeited their right to take their place in that league.

There was no scenario whereby both us and Wigan could survive. As for some of our players trying to sue West Ham, I have no sympathy at all with those players. Even in the championship they are well rewarded for what they do and earn sums of money that the rest of us can only dream about. Anyway, if we had remained in the premier league, it would be down to the club to pay the players, so if we do by some unlikely chance get £30 million out of West Ham I would say the players would have no claim at all against West ham. Their claim would be against Sheffield United.

Forgive me if I'm wrong in this but was this settled before the end of the season and therefore gave you the opportunity to win this battle against relegation on the football pitch? Whether you beleieve that West Ham were in the wrong it was still in your hands to stay up. West Ham could have easily failed in staying up as well after the judgement.

They could have done so, but didn't - in large part because they had Tevez, and were only still playing him because they continued to decdeive the premier league. The judgement was indeed made before the end of the season, and having unexpectedly got a penalty that did not involve a points deduction, instead of counting their blessings, they continued to ignore the rules and obtained premier league blessing to play Tevez by deceit. Should Ben Johnson have remained the gold medalist at the 1988 100m olympic final? Of course he shouldn't, because he gained an unfair advantage over his competitors. West ham also gained an unfair advantage over their competitors. Maybe if we'd have cheated and gained the services of a world class player outside of the rules we would have done better in some of the matches that we lost. But, along with 18 other sides we played by the rules and have suffered accordingly. We could have stayed up on that final day, but only at Wigan's expense. And that would not have been fair either. If a club plays to a different set of rules to everyone else they should be in a different league to everyone else. We did have a chance to stay up anyway. I agree. And I rather think that the premier league officials banked on us doing so. But, we were not in a fair fight. One team, like Ben Johnson enhanced it's performance unfairly.
