I've a suspicion that Argentina might actually scrap fourth place, having looked at the remaining fixtures. Uruguay will find it tough to get anything out of their match against Ecuador and Argentina will beat Peru, leaving Uruguay out of the runnning. Ecuador will travel to Chile for their final game, which I can see Chile winning and I think Argentina will scrap a point, putting them level on points with Ecuador and taking fourth place on goal difference. Feel free to mock my hopelessly incorrect forecast in a month's time when we see the real outcomes. Finally, here's the highlights from the Bolivia vs Ecuador match. The opening few seconds provide quite a bit of amusement. ;D

You won't find me mocking you for your theory, Pete! It is a plausible one and there is some logic to it. I spent a small bit of time yesterday and worked out the seedings/pots for the final draw as it stands, dependent on New Zealand beating Bahrain and Argentina beating Costa Rica (if it comes to that scenario): Pot 1 - Top SeedsSouth Africa (Hosts) Brazil England Germany Italy Netherlands Spain + highest seeded UEFA play-off winner (currently Russia if they progress) Pot 2 - UEFA potDenmark Serbia Switzerland Slovakia 3 of the following: Sweden Greece Slovenia Bosnia & Herzegovina Croatia France Republic of Ireland New Zealand (as there are 7 European spaces left, FIFA would logically complete this Pot with the sole Oceana team) Pot 3 - South America + Asia (again, logic dictates that 4 CONMEBOL sides will be paired up with 4 Asian sides) Argentina Chile Ecuador Paraguay Australia Japan North Korea South Korea Pot 4 - Africa + North AmericaAlgeria Cameroon Ghana Ivory Coast Tunisia Honduras Mexico USA Of course, it's dependent on who qualifies, but it should give you a rough idea. So, you could have a draw of: England France Argentina Mexico But it could also be England, New Zealand, North Korea, Honduras. ;D

Maradona is a C*nt. Grondona or more specifically his son is the bigger C*nt for appointing him in the first place.
The team has no pattern, system, belief and it has managed to do what no opposition coaches have been unable to do ,nullify Messi as an attacking threat.
Argentina are more than Messi. They have a dazzling array of talent in midfield and upfront and quality defenders as del Bosque commented last season in La Liga where he chose Gonzalo Rodriguez to be the best of the crop.
Strangely or perhaps not in Planet Maradona these players such as Mauro Zarate, Gonzalo Higuain,Lisandro Lopez, Federico Fazio...the list goes on and on are overlooked in favour of non entities under M's misplaced patriotism of calling domestically based players.
Such examples inc.Seba Dominguez,Martin Palermo and Emiliano Papa.
It is unable to coach and does not even bother getting up in the mornings to do so.
When down to ten men Fernando Gago who should not even be near the team compared to Lazio's Christian Ledesma asked the god for instructions and received none.
Jorge Messi has confirmed M refuses to speak to Lionel and offers no ideas to the players before matches or in coaching sessions on the system but instead prefers idiocies of laying Veron as a winger , not playing Aguero off a real nine , tasking Mascherano to track two opponents at the same time (work that out). The list could go on.
The players have lost all confidence in him and so have 99.9% of Argentina supporters across the globe.
Yet again it refuses to accept any blame for the results, instead of which it blames the players and threatens to eclude yet more European based players and I am sure if it could ,it would prevent Messi from playing. Jealousy or madness ?
Even Aguero refused to shake his father in law's hand after being subbed during the Paraguay game as it made two substitutions to save the game.
One Martin Palermo that world renowned striker at 35 a failure in La Liga and Rolando Schiavi at 36 as a defender .Was eh trying to protect a 1-0 loss ?
The goals conceded such as the Luisao header, the long punt upfield against Bolivia are not acceptable at low level club football but typifies his approach to coaching.
He has turned a Ferrari into a Morris Minor. Other nations must be laughing knowing that this team which if properly coached and the right players selected are quite capable of winning the WC next year are in a shambles.
A Paraguay fan told me, Paraguay will not win the game in Asuncion we'll leave that to Maradona.
Brazil's best player in qualification has been Julio Cesar which say's much but even so aside from a very bright opening twenty minutes ,Argentina were not up too much. The lack of a nine was evident.
Haedo Valdez said he found it staggering that Argentina were playing like this but hinted the problem was the coach. Well blow me down with a feather Einstein.
And so at long last the AFA tomorrow may at last remove the idiot to save Argentina from not even making the playoff spot which will in all likelihood be against Costa Rica.
Hopefully the moron will walk away (he should be dragged round Buenos Aires from the back of a truck) and the right players will be selected and coached properly.
Hell even the Boca fans are calling him a traitor to the country traicionó a su país.

Agree with everything Ovechkin has posted I said from day 1 that appointing Maradona was a disaster waiting to happen I still can't make head or tale of his selection. What was he thinking? Players like Seba Dominguez, Emiliano Papa & Rolando Schiavi shouldn't be anywhere near the national team. I can understand why he opted for Palermo as he offers an aerial threat Where the hell are players like Luis Gonzalez, Walter Samuel & Gonzalo Higuain? ? Another masterstroke by Diego was falling out with Juan Riquelme As good a player as Maradona was, he's out of his depth as a manager. He says all the right things in his press conferences but when it comes to tactics and selecting a team he's clueless He's turned Argentina into a mockery when qualification should have been a foregone conclusion Maradona has to be fired and Marcelo Bielsa has to be re appointed. He's done an awesome job guiding Chile to the brink of the finals I'd be gutted if Argentina fail to make it to South Africa, not only because they're my adopted second nation but because the World Cup wouldn't be the same without them or Messi (PS: Ovechkin, I told you how good Datolo is ;D)

Most of the football fans in Argentina agree.
Some Argentina fans hacked into the AFA website at the weekend, and posted a picture of Maradona's head photoshopped onto a Brazil shirt with the words "A picture is worth a thousand words." ;D
The site is still down.

I e-mailed the AFA with my views a bit toned down of course. Today it was supposed to be Ezeiza the national team training complex where it was supposed to meet up with Grondona and Bilardo and discuss some changes. Supposedly this would mean Bilardo would have control over the team, and other coaches would be brought in with M becoming a cheerleader which is about right for him. Bilardo was supposed to have said the onyl chance M would have to stay on is if Jesus himself came to the meeting . ;D Sadly the naughty upset child has run off to Europe to tell the likes of Zanetti they will never be called up to the seleccion again. Mate your not fit to lace Zanetti's boots as a human being for a start with all of his charity work you drugged up junkie. And even Licha Lopez. Licha did not even get a chance to play . Instead the useless Palermo was tasked with saving M. G has to do something .Failure to qualify will cost the AFA more than paying up the idiot's contract. Sam Datolo is promising and what a superb goal it was too but we've also unearthed a new gem down the left in Diego Perotti who scored a cracker for Sevilla against Zaragoza to add to di Maria. I'm not that worried about JRR as if we called up the right players we could have Aimar (sparkling again at Benfica),Pastore take that role and let Zarate or di Maria take the set pieces with great quality. JRR was right to leve though when he did. He must have known the fool is a jealous idiot. It does help of you are playing for Napoli and Boca too. I expect Hugo Campagnaro get a call up. But to eb fair he was a fans favourite at Sampdoria and reliable and far better than Seba 'OAP's run faster than me' Dominguez and Emiliano'if you blew on me I'd fly away in the wind' Papa. It's not lies or bias or false exaggeration but right now Argentina are blessed with an incredible depth of talent. There are gifted young defenders with a physical edge to them as well but the clown never calls them up. Judging by his non existent coaching he has probably never even bothered watching them something at least which Alfio Basile did ie with Garay,Cavenaghi. I am praying that when the idiot returns later this week he is either arrested in Italy for tax evasion or G makes a long distance call to sack him. You look at a side like England with a modicum of talent ie Rooney, Joe Cole, Defoe and see what a proper coach has done compared to Steve' I'm a useless money grabbing coach but better than Maradona' McLaren. Perhaps the AFA could lob the Peruvians some big brown paper envelopes a la 1978.

All they need to understand is that you need width in the game and the od ball over the top as JRR used to do to the the rabbit or Crespo to make the defence stay on their heels. Ergo the midfield gets more space. And all that Pekermanesque movement off the ball and which is drilled into Argentine kids has gone. Result Messi used out of position as Veron put it succintly is being asked to win games by beating 5-6 defenders on a slalom. To be fair he nearly did it twice against Brazil and Paraguay but what sort of gameplan is that. Guardiola is the panicked reaction. There are excellent coaches in Argentina ,two of whom have led Paraguay and probably Chile to qualification and a combo of Cappa and Cuper would be nice with Tocalli in the background. The sole thing at the moment is too get rid of M who was probably in a stupor at his Italian spa unable to see how impressive Samuel was last night and how to utilize Messi.

Shithead's selection for the next two qualifiers. GK Sergio Romero , Mariano Andújar Pozo/Carizzo DF Fabricio Coloccini, Rolando Schiavi, Nicolás Otamendi, Emiliano Papa, Martín Demichelis, Gabriel Heinze ,Emiliano Insúa, Fabián CuberoMF Javier Mascherano, Juan Verón, Rodrigo Braña, Jonás Gutiérrez, Jesús Dátolo, Angel Di María, Mario Bolatti & Lucho González. FW Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuaín, Sergio Agüero, Martín Palermo, Diego Milito & Ezequiel Lavezzi. It's laughable. How did the fookers (in bold) get in ? No Lisandro,Aimar,Perotti,Samuel,Fazio,Garay,Banega,Zanetti, Maxi Rodriguez ,Cambiasso,Zarate and Gonzalo Rodriguez but crudbummers like Schiavi,Palermo,Brana, Cubero get in along with super tronco Colocinni. Velez may be champions and Estudiantes but I don't think the Uruguayan coach will be selecting anyone from Danubio or Nacional for instance. Veron still gets in even though he will be available for just the one match. Someone shoot the fat bastard before October the first. Just takes one bullet. Cokehead, adulterer, hypocrite and tax evader(and the greatest footballer of all time).

What a shit selection
Datolo was the best player on the pitch against Brasil & Paraguay and he's not even in the squad WTF?
Zanetti despite his age is still a world-class defender and where is Walter Samuel & Nicolas Burdisso?
Also Carrizo is a far better keeper than Andujar
I have said for a while now that Crespo deserves a re call and as good as Milito is for Inter he just doesn't cut it at international level
Maradona is becoming more obsessed with strikers than Neil Warnock
Pleased Aimar is back though as he's an excellent player

Thank god Sam. I checked it up this morning and I was pleasantly surprised. Pablo Aimar IS BACK !!!!!!! At last someone to work his magic with Messi. We just need five other players. May I suggest Samuel,Fazio or Garay, Perotti, Monzon or Ansaldi and Cuchu. I do not think this is Ms selection by the way . I hope it is coached properly because games are not won on paper selections. It is a disgrace the way Il Capitano and players like Maxi Rod have been sidelined. Re Crespo he has been excelling for Genoa alongside Palacio and is more worthy of a callup. Even Ayala has been imperious for Zaragoza might deserve a call up for these two vital games to add experience for the backline. But I do feel far more hopeful. Lets hope Cuper and Cappa take the training sessions amigo. Por siempre un albiceleste.

If he was going to get rid of anyone it should have been Heinze & not Zanetti IMO As you say, Ayala has been in sizzling form for Zaragoza and has said on many occasions that he's prepared to come out of international retirement if he's needed Agree with most of the players you list, though perhaps it's the wrong time to throw some of them in You know who I really like? Gonzalo Bergessio formerly of San Lorenzo & now of Saint Ettiene. Much better option than Milito IMO

Bergessio has been impressive as well. Banega was magnificent for Valencia last night creating the goal and displaying a super range of passing. He was with di Maria and Aguero the three most talented of the 2007 u20 crop and at last looks to be getting his focus. Pablito looked a bit nervous last night guess he does not want to pick up an injury which woud be typical. I'd still like to see either of Gonzalo Rodriguez/Fazio/Garay brought in. Pareja and Heinze against Cavani and Forlan is not what I'd like to see assuming we beat Peru (and that's no given). I guess the 5 remaining spots will go to local players. Please no Seba Dominguez or Papa. Shame Angeleri is still out though. www.youtube.com/watch?

Banega along with Perotti and Piatti have all looked fantastic so far, in my opinion. Ghana friendly is tonight, predictions anybody..? Banega ran the show for Valencia against Atletico and it was no surprise when he was subbed they lost momentum. He has so much natural ability after having only seriously taken the sport up at sixteen !! Perotti too deserves a call up on form and even Piatti. Palermo 2-0 Ghana 3rd XI. Not to much to crow about seeing as the Ghanaians were so weak but typically M has decided it's enough to elevate Palermo ahead of Higuain for the Peru game and Milito too..... MP never cut it in La Liga and he is the past. Hope he does not have to take a penalty. It's probably a move to placate the Boca faithful seeing how shabbiliy Roman has been treated. The Boca fans still are turning against him and if Argentina fail to wualify his fall from grace will be complete. Masche is an injury doubt too and thankfully so is Colocinni. Yte he does not call up Ever or Gonzalo or Fazio who has been solid in Sevilla's backline. Sevilla v Real should be a cracker this weekend.

Palermo scored a 50 yard header vs Velez the other day, still shouldn't be anywhere near the NT setup though (in my opinion).
