It's a can of worms. Way I see it: Dec, Jan, Feb - Winter Mar, Apr, May - Spring June, July, Aug - Summer Sep, Oct, Nov - Autumn. But traditionally 1st May is the start of Summer. In most parts of the UK, the response to that would be "coughbollockscough" It's the way I see it too, since we got snow in February, and that's associated with winter Yeppo - UK weather does pretty much adhere to that pattern - certainly in central and southern parts. In Leeds I imagine it's permafrost, but that's another matter entirely! Eoin has the right idea vis-a-vis tradition, but it just don't work like that! Plus I'd be pretty depressed if it were Autumn already!

Hmm, and I thought in Autumn it got dark at about 6... Hence why the cricket season stops in September in England, when it turns to Autumn well our calendar is based on seasons worked out up to 4000 years ago, not something set down by romans and adjusted by a pope another 1600 years later

Hang on, if your seasons are based on whatever you said, how come you haven't got your own month names
