Prestune in 1086(DB) farmstead of the Priests. Preost+Tun(OE) Burhercse in the 12th cent. Ploughed field by the fort. Burh(fort)+ ersc(ploughed field) (OE). i live in Preston, Lancashire although I come from Burwash in East Sussex

Eborakon c.150,Eboracum in 1086(DB)Either,estate of a man called Eubros(Celtic) or more likely,estate of the Yew trees. The vikings came here and named it Jorvik,from there it was a small step to York. Before the Vikings however,there is some speculation the place name became associated with wild Boar,and Jorvik is a corruptionn of this. Born in York, brought up in York, live in York in Yorkshire
