I do feel for him, but I agree - he needs to be in on merit.
I hope he gets his 100th cap, but I guess it's just not to be this time. Hopefully he'll open with a few blinders in the MLS to force himself back into at least squad contention!

Not impressed.
Beckham has something that is missing from the likes of Gerrard and Lampard. It's something that is very rare in international football these days. It's called having a bit of pride and passion and fighting until the last. He is one of the few players we have that actually plays for the shirt.
Beckhams better days are well truly behind him but he deserves that 100th cap.
In an era when the FA and England fail at every hurdle, I think it is shameful and a complete discredit to our country that we cannot recognise one of our finest footballers in such a simple way.
He will probably get picked in the next game because Capello will realise that it's an advantage to have someone to can actually cross a ball in the team.

Just spoke to my mate and he is pissed off. The only reason he was going to the Switzerland game was because he thought Becks would get his 100th cap.

Beckham maybe be passionate but he has not played a decent standard of football since May 2007. In fact he's played no football at all for the last 2 months.
You have to go by form and at the moment he has none whatsoever.

Give him his 100th cap which he deserves for his services to English fooball. I bet a lot of you muppets would rather have David Bentley playing.

I agree entirely with what you say, Miz - Beckham's shown a lot of passion for the shirt, and undoubtedly deserves that 100th cap. However, as Cav said, you have to sleect players based on what they're doing now - and in all fairness, while Beckham says he's fit, he said that for Japan '02 too, and he was clearly off the pace there.
Another time, certainly, but right now isn't right.

I see what you are saying but I don't think there will be another time. It would be disgraceful to leave him standing on 99 caps. Equally I can't imagine Capello being impressed with Beckham dancing around on the beach like a tart - you saw the news story right?!

Agreed, that wasn't his smartest move but the chances are Capello already had his mind made up.

This is a pointless friendly against a pointless Country. Chuck him on with 10 mins to go. Give him his 100th cap which he deserves for his services to English fooball. He deserves to get his 100th cap in better fashion than that - can you imagine what a let-down that'd be? Almost a "Here, let's get it out of the way - you can leave now" scenario. I don't doubt even for a second that if he's still up to scratch, he'll get another game - and let's face it, how many English wingers can deliver a cross like he can? He'll get his chance. Ideal scenario, he'll get it at Wembley, set up the first goal of the game, and be taken off in the 70th minute (allowing fresh legs to terrorise a tiring defence) to a standing ovation from the home crowd. Perfect world, fairy-tale etc, but it's no less than he deserves.

He might be past his best but I actually think he has a lot more to offer England than 1 game to get the 100th cap. When McLaren backed down and recalled him to the squad I think he proved McLaren wrong and was probably England's best performing player for the rest of the campaign. As Miz says it looks like it seems to mean so much more to him than some of the others, and you need those kind of players in a national team. As for his fitness - he's been training with Arsenal to keep fit which is tremendous commitiment to cause. Give him credit, it is the close season in America afterall. He does derserve a bit of a break. Its only a friendly, Capello doesn't have to play him for the whole game if he is a bit unfit. But its unfair to him not to get the chance to show what he can do when he remains England's most consistent performer. I don't think there is a ready made replacement yet either. An undeserved snub.
