we'd piss all over scotland! There you go! The hopeless optimism has already sunk in. It's not about national pride or anything. I'd love England to win a game against the Scots but right now, with the set up we have and the apparent lack of ability our players have to play as a team, I do fear that the Scots would tear our team a new areshole.

...but Scotlands success is based on team spirit and tactics - 2 things we dont have! Which, if any, scottish players would you LIKE to see in an engalnd shirt Si?? Our under 17's are ranked very highly, and our under 21's likewise - we have the ability in our youth system, we have enough quality leagues to allow them to get 'blooded' and if they are good enough they will get their chance. You are forgetting that the Scottish Premier is League 1 standard (plus Rangers & Celtic) Oh sure, the future is looking rosy and you make some valid points. However, imagine the Home Internationals starting again...would you honestly fancy England's chances of beating the Scotland side irrespective of the apparent gulf in class between the Scottish and English Premier Leagues? Scotland's rise has come about by a real passion and pride in the shirt and a gritty determination to succeed from the staff to the players. I honestly don't see that in the England team. We play as individuals regardless of the tactics adopted. I think the whole set-up in England needs to take a collective responsibillity as currently, I genuinely believe it's FUBAR. I totally agree about the FA - and there stands the problem!! The quality of player we have at our disposal is as good as anywhere in the world - its the quality of coach and manager that is the problem - look at Brazil, Argentina, Spain & France for a similar situation! The 'foreigners' issue is a double edgeds sword - our young players can only benefit from having played and trained with Henry, Ronaldo, Makelele, Van Nistelroy, Tugay etc etc - its the cheap squad players who ruin the chances of youngsters! a limit of 4 or 5 per 'match day squad' might solve it a bit??

McClaren is one lucky bastard i tell you. Yeah and isn't it great that we had to rely on the Isrealis to help us out....How good are we ! I am starting to agree with what folk are saying about our players being prima donnas who think they just have to turn up to get paid loads and that is it.

Sorry..... but Scotland would piss all over us at the moment ! ! They have more passion and committment and that counts more than "natural ability"

nope!
at the end of the day england have:
- no discipline - no passion - no commitment - no teamwork
unlike pretty much every other nation, yet we're still coming thru a group with teams like Russia, Croatia and Israel who personify those traits, so to say we couldn't beat the scots, cos all we have is talent is rubbish

Passion and desire can get you so far, but without that ability you have no chance!

we haven't come through the group yet. And have we done it on our own merit ? No. We are only in with a slim chance because others have fucked up !

Passion and desire can get you so far, but without that ability you have no chance! Bollocks! If that were the case how come there are so many cup upsets and how many times do underdogs upset the odds !

The bottom line is that before England become a great footballing nation that we all think they already are a lot of fucking things need to change. Starting with a decent manager !

its about time our players, started playing instead of preening and posing for the screen.
our england, full of skill, lacks passion, tactically inept.

If I can sum up then.....sorry, had to go to the cinema with the kids to watch Ratatouille..... We're all totally frustrated by England at the moment. We want them to do well and achieve the success that's been promised by the hugely talented squad but something isn't right. Is it the management? Is it the players? Mentions of a lack of passion should be a cause for concern because it's my guess that any one of us, if put in the position of being good enough to be selected to play for England ( yeah I know but bear with me) would die for the shirt, would die for the team and would give our last breath to win. I don't see that in the crop of players out there at the moment. This lack of desire is compounded, in my view, by a management team that is out of its depth and tactically naiive. We want something to change but nothing will if we qualify. This debate has been thoroughly interesting, mainly because it's one of the few times I've actually engaged in a purely football based discussion. At least with our national team being so bloody inconsistent, we've all got something to say. ;D
