I got around to watching this last night and thought it was one of the most compelling documentaries that he's done, and that's going way back to his two series of 'Weird Weekends' back in the late 1990's.
I think the reason being was that for once, the subject matter and the arguments were not totally 'black and white'. While previous documentaries which for example followed white supermacists amongst others did look to uncover the backgrounds and motivations of the people involved, ultimately the viewer was never in any doubt that the subjects were worthy of nothing but condemnation.
This documentary was a little different in tone. While the hunter tourists lived up to every stereotype ie. successful white American men who seemed to think that the killing of animals was an extension of their masculinity, it was harder to know whether those who provided the 'service' should actually be castigated.
While on the surface, providing an artificial, fenced environment where tourists could come and pick off animals from their 'shopping list' of kills in a very easy fashion sounds abhorrent, the arguments about actually saving species by eliminating poachers was a strong one. It could also be argued that in some respects - especially as the meat was used to feed people - that the areas were in no great way different to free-range livestock farms.
Did anyone else see it?

Yeah I saw it, I've always like Louis Theroux and his programmes, glad he didn't kill that warthog. I was kinda relieved too as I've always liked the bloke.  Did you ever see the episode when he met the white supremacists in South Africa? He really made their leader squirm when he went back to his house and find out his entire record collection comprised of the likes of Michael Jackson, The Supremes and The Delfonics. ;D |

Did you ever see the episode when he met the white supremacists in South Africa?
