WALL E Watched this over the weekend and it is a great film! For saying there is so little dialogue, it's still both funny and sad and its beautifully animated! Great characters, and for a kids film to send out a message that BIG global companies are fucking up the world is just genious! It kept me, mini Gres and Mrs Gres entertained and is now one of my favourite animated films. Go see it, it may just surprise you! 8.25/10

As for the Woody Allen film... "Woody Allen films are great, except for that one nervous fellow who's always in them..." ;D

Dog Soldiers
A quality low budget British werewolf flick featuring some superb tongue in cheek (and guts out of stomach) acting! Kevin McKidd and Sean Pertwee star as soldiers on a training exercise in the Scottish Highlands assailed by bloodthirsty werewolves.
From then on in it is a race against time to destroy the beasts, in heartpounding fashion!
A good example of a lighthearted Brit horror, light years away from nasty rubbish like Saw. Wolf Creek and Hostel.
7.5/10

Blue VelvetSo Trav is trying to educate me in the way of David Lynch. Having seen Twin Peaks I was sceptical just because Twin Peaks was equally as weird as it was shit. I'd heard about Blue Velvet before, mainly about Dennis Hopper just being completely off his face most of the film. So here are some of my thoughts. The film is about Jeffrey (Kyle MacLaclan) who, after coming home to look after his dad when he has a stroke, finds a human ear which spirals him into a world of suburban depravity. I loved how the film was shot like an old film noir. It could have been a black and white film with people emerging from dark corners and the main characters being lit occassionally with bright lights. The instrumentals also made this very much a Raymond Chandleresque styled film. On the whole I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. Mainly because Dennis Hopper was sooooo derranged in it, it was hard to feel anything other than shock. The "baby wants to fuck" scene is possibly one of the strangest cinema experiences I've ever had. I was disappointed with Isabella Rossilini. I don't know whether it was intentional that she overacted but it was off putting when she did, especially the 'In Dreams' scene where Jeffrey is being beaten and she is rolling around in the car (which has a hooker dancing on the roof ?) It is a marmite film and very much like Fellini films I came away from it thinking 'what was the point'. However it's undeiable that the cinematography is spectacular and plays out like a poem with it imagery and symobolism. 6.5/10

Pretty much - there are a few sad bits in it as well though, but on the whole its a real 'feelgood' film with plenty to chuckle at - and it gives out a message about getting lazy and doing as we're told by BIG corporations!

The positive remarks about the film noir appearance of the piece and the use of imagery and symbolism tells me that 'Muholland Drive' is the next film to go with. Nothing anywhere near as weird as Dennis Hopper in it, but a narrative that will immerse you and then ultimately lose you completely.

ST. TRINIANSJesus, has it really come to this? The complete waste ground of fresh ideas that has led to an interminable line of remakes and franchise revivals in Hollywood has slowly infected the UK film industry, and this is the result! Were it not for the 'rich' heritage of earlier works it's hard to conceive that a film like this would be made, in part because of the concept, but mostly because every aspect of it is sooooo bad. The story, what there is of it, surrounds another attempt to close down the famous boarding school where every privileged problem child seems to find themselves at. Horrified at the prospect of receiving a proper education elsewhere, the girls hatch an ingenious plan to steal the 'Girl With a Pearl Earring' painting and sell it on so as to pay off the school's debts. The film is crammed with jokes, both verbal and visual yet I struggled to even smile throughout the duration, while the more esteemed actors in the cast look wholly uncomfortable and quite embarrassed to be involved. The whole chavvy 'girl power' theme and the 'Mission Impossible-esque' scheming were just tiresome in the extreme. Slightly better than the monstrosity masquerading as the latest Rambo film, though only on the grounds of being less morally reprehensible...... and the quality of Gemma Aterton's legs. 2/10
