top 11..........
NO good players 2 leave in the summer.......
bitta investment.......
bent sold........
see how we go next season
my guess - we CUD surprise A LOT
Here's my view of what we need to make an impact next season:
- Maintain our good run of form this season - if we finish this campaign on a high, it'll generate a great air of optimism around the club over the summer, and I think we suffered from not having that last summer. I think we'd all agree that a top half finish, whilst difficult with the current points gap, would make a good end to an average season.
- Sign Francis Jeffers on a permanent deal in the summer - to be honest, I don't believe it'll be quite as easy as EADT are making out, but with Jim having secured Sylvain Legwinski earlier in the season, he's shown that he has the determination to bring this calibre of player to the club (something I'm not so sure Joe Royle had).
- No-one to perform worse next season than they have done this season - this particularly applies to Alan Lee, because my only concern is that this might have been Lee's one good season, and if he can't keep it up next year, we'll be left looking for another 15-20 goal a season man. I honestly think Jeffers would be a 20 goal man if we got him, so if Lee did the same thing next season as he has this season, we'd have our new Bent/Kuqi style partnership we've been waiting for. I seriously hope Jaime Peters and Jon Walters play throughout next season like they have done these last few weeks.
- Sell off the deadwood - I bet Darren Currie can't believe his bloody luck being able to jump into a club bound for the Premiership, and seeing as I don't think we need him anymore, we might as well sell him. I want to see Bowditch go too, to be honest, but I think Klug and Magilton are determined to get something out of him ( )
- Debt reduction and investment - I think we'd be lucky to get this, but it might just happen. Sheepshanks has hinted that talks are back on, and if it happens, we'll have some financial punch. Any club trying to make the change from mid-table to promotion candidate needs this kind of clout.
- An experienced keeper - I still think we could do with one. I'm not going to criticise Lewis Price because I honestly think he's the next Welsh number one, but I liked the setup we had when Mike Pollitt was here.
If these things happen, I honestly think we'll make the playoffs. I'm not going nuts over this because this time last season I was saying I thought we'd go up automatically this year not long before we lost nearly every game remaining that season and Joe Royle got sacked(!) But I think the optimism at the club at present is definitely justified because we are going in the right direction. It's gonna be tough, but if we finish 12th this year, a top 10 finish next year sounds feasible.
Or we could do a Leeds and end up in the relegation scrap. Who knows.
Lol! ;D
