BIG-MATCH FACTS
IPSWICH TOWN and Swansea City had contrasting passages into the fourth round. While the Welsh side were pulling off one of the shocks of the day, the Suffolk club were being held to a goalless draw by League Two Chester. They were then made to fight hard in the replay by the club reinstated in the competition because of a misdemeanour by their second round opponents Bury. Substitute Matt Richards booked Ipswich a place in the last 32 for the first time in three years with a magnificent shot from 30 yards six minutes from time.
The Tractor Boys, who've won their last three home games in League and Cup, have not had a berth in the fifth round since 1995-96. If Jim Magilton's side are to achieve such a feat they will need to avoid defeat to lower League opposition for the first time since the fourth round five years ago when a Premiership club. Town were knocked out 1-4 at home to then second tier Manchester City on 27 January 2002. It was 12 years ago when Ipswich were last knocked out by a club from the third level. Wrexham defeated Town 2-1 at the Racecourse Ground in the third round on 7 January 1995, when Ipswich once again were a Premier League outfit.
These clubs have never met in the FA Cup. Town are 15 places higher on the League ladder, but have not clashed in any competition with them since both were in the top flight together in 1982-83.
SWANSEA CITY arrived at this stage by inflicting on Sheffield United the joint second heaviest home defeat on a top flight club by lower League opposition in the history of the FA Cup. Two goals in a six and a half minute spell from midfielder Thomas Butler and a penalty from Leon Britton made Blades manager Neil Warnock pay the price for fielding an understrength side at Bramall Lane. It was one of the finest results in Swansea's history, but they were a little disappointed that they were not rewarded with a tie against a Premiership big gun.
Kenny Jackett's side have scored three goals in each of their three ties to date - all of which have been away from home. Indeed the Swans have been drawn away for nine successive FA Cup rounds. The south Wales side have only qualified for the last 16 once in 26 seasons. They last reached the fifth round in 2003-04 when defeated by Tranmere.
The Swans have not recorded a victory at Portman Road, since an odd goal in five top flight triumph on 7 November 1981 when Alan Curtis, Bob Latchford and Gary Stanley scored. John Toshack's Swansea went on to finish the season in sixth place, Bobby Robson's Ipswich second.
Can't make it, so no match report I'm afraid bluey! Really bogged down with schoolwork at the moment and a lot due in for Monday
Anyhoo, predictions?
